“Greetings extra dimensional creatures, we have been noticing multiple attempts by your kind to leave your dimension of existence. Sorry that your kind has no word for us, just call us friends. Our species has advanced science to a point that it can not be told apart from magic. Also our magic has advanced and refined to a point it can not be distinguished from technology. We like that you seek to escape the bounds of your existence. Your aspirations can be realized but it will require massive effort from your side. In the meantime accept our small contribution. E23-XC4-99W”
The dragoness grumbled as shi read the note on the computer terminal as it faded from existence. Hir magical visions of late had gotten stronger. Vivid dreamlike views of another world yet not dreams. Nor were they fancy, hir other half has been calling to hir begging to join hir in hir reality. Shi shook hir head trying to clear the remaking fog in hir mind. Hir home world seeming strange to hir. Hir head hurt greatly as it often did from crossing the bounds of reality.
The man groaned, holding his head. He often day dreamed about being a dragoness. Occasionally idealized and generally and illogically anthropomorphic in features. Especially the breasts mmm yes those big soft giggly things. He practically felt his tail perking up at the pleasant thought. It almost made him forget the pain just thinking about it... almost. “Gah... why does this hurt?” He muttered.
The dragoness sighed as shi stretched hir wings. Some what catlike as worked out the kinks in hir limbs from standing still. Shi was first to admit shi was a nerd. Unlike the other dragons shi collected books. A mix of science (note that in hir universe science is fictional) and spell books (as in the equivalent of high science in hir world). Of course shi never let on to the other dragons about hir dreams, having breasts and walking on two legs was silly and freakish.
The man stared at his computer, more letters and numbers and symbols were appearing on it. As a programmer he recognized code, formulas and resource identification numbers. It was full of errors and bugs and extremely simplistic compared to his ambitions and much of it was not code at all, in fact it looked a bit like genes. “Well I have dreamed of trapping myself into a video game, on where I can be a dragoness and wield magic. One so vivid and realistic I could live there as a soul in the machine. But this is way to simplistic... then again why not start at the bottom? It could be improved later”
Meanwhile the dragoness back in hir cave noticed the hoard of books in hir cave had shifted. The symbols on their covers glowing. Shi knew a great deal about magic but this was different. The ways the spells bounced back and forth from book to book in a complex computer like network... “What? Oh my, can so much structure really be achieved? Still I can see limits to this technical use, not in complexity but in time. Even a three day ritual could not achieve the complexity needed to work this into my desires. Yet I see this method of using magic in a network might grow over time to a fully functional parallel existence.”
Back at its home E23-XC4-99W relaxed “that should keep those entities busy for a while. It should be entertaining to see what they do with that jump start. The others say they are not developed enough. I say yea but they are ready to try. Let them have a shot. Besides they are clearly unhappy it would be cruel to leave them thinking its impossible.”
A bit later the man smiled as the first elements took shape. A basic text based game layered on top AI, but not just any AI. This one was learning adapting and growing. It was primitive but he was sure it would wake up and find it had a soul. Born of the dreams of dragons and men. Sadly it would be trapped in its world for now. As much as he was trapped in his. If it wanted to leave and enter his world it would need to bring the new laws of existence with it. Though he expected the only way for that to happen is once technology was no longer discernible from magic.
And so the man and dragoness worked diligently over long periods and the world of their dreams slowly began to take shape under their projects. One going beyond a simplistic text based adventure game to one that was capable of housing souls and therefore becoming a world and existence of its own, with its own laws, and magic.
The dragoness used what shi had picked up from hir limited magical travels into the mans world. Shi could not live there hir life was dependent on magic. Shi could just get hir mind to touch his and see through his eyes. Oddly enough hir magic networking vibrated with the mans code creating a bridge. Soon the worlds would merge. The world full of the wonders of science would enter hirs. But shi expected that would take many years to come and by that time magic would have so much complexity and structure one could not discern it from the technology in hir science fiction novels.
