While warming up for some sketching earlier this week, I painted a 5-10 minute speedpaint of the sun breaking over the horizon during winter. Just a little bit of warmth penetrating the cold. I liked how it came out, as did others, and I promised myself I'd do a full painting with the concept.
This is what I came out with. =3 The colors are different, and there's also snow now, but I feel they're both worthy adjustments, especially the snow. I really love the feel it gave the painting.
As for meaning, there is no correct one. I'm sure this (as well as anything) will have a different meaning for everyone, so interpret it as how you see fit. =D
Enjoy! ^^

Well, I'm in Boston. I enjoy the cold, and the snow occasionally. I love to hang outside when it's winter. I find it just as enjoyable as summer, although most disagree. :P
Where do you live? -30 sucks! If Maine, I understand. I remember once we went on a Scout Trip to Maine, and instead of bringing tents, we made a giant mound of snow, let if freeze, carved it out, and slept in that. Insane and fun, but that temperature would drive me mad. Too cold for me.

Not as bad as Nova Scotia though. I think it was somewhere -40 at times in the Winter when I was there. I have a lot of family there, so we visit like every Winter Vacation, because Summer is busy. Very chilly, what with it being Cape Breton, and being right next to the Sea everywhere you go.
the snow on fur is startling detail that just made me pause. I love that you put that in. The crystals resting there just before they melt makes the frosty air feel that much more real. It makes it feel like a frozen moment of a real life, not just an image. With his expression though I cant help but interpret it as a sad moment?
Sorry for the late reply to this!
Thanks so much for the great comment. ^^ I'm really glad you noticed that detail, as it is one of the favorites I did put in. As for the moment, yeah I'd say it's rather sad, if not something quiet and mellow. It's definitely not happy, lets put it that way. xD

I think in Manitoba you have much more claim to frosty snowy sunrises like this than me growin up in the Cascade mountains in Oregon :P but it made me think of home.. you captured a shade of light I know from so many days when I was young, walkin to the bus stop down an unplowed road, ready for a warm classroom in the tiny two room schoolhouse. Thankyou for reminding me of days Id forgotten too easily
Sorry for the late reply! But yes, I did this entirely from scratch. =3
As for capturing a North Dakota winter, I'd say I've got first hand experience. xD I don't live very far from North Dakota, and I've actually passed through Fargo several times. (I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba)
