So, I got the head pulled off. Head gasket was totally blown, one head bolt was stuck in the block due to oil leaking down around it, then burning and solidifying and the oil passages and returns are clogged up with sludge, and in addition to he bad head gasket, the piston rings were also shot and there was hardly any compression. Fuckin thing still ran like it was nothing. The good news is, the cams, rockers, and cylinder walls all looked good. All the cross hashing is still there and they don't looked pitted or scratched from heat or loose objects.

the next step is to get the oil pan off and check out the bottom end, but judging by the condition of everything else I think it'll probably not be too bad.

These are super simple trucks and wrenching on this thing has been more fun than it has any business being.
