Here are some well known species of otters. Note there are more, and also subspecies of these (the sea otter itself has about 3 different subspecies) Done with Flash CS3 while people watched via Ustream ^_^

Awesome work, Kipper. Makes me think I need to do wallabies of the world if I get time. I don't know if I can fit them all on the page, especially if any kangaroos stick their big backsides into the image!
I've only seen the sea otter, small clawed Asian otter, and the American river otters in person. I didn't even know about a number of these 'till now!

Awesome piece. Mind if I point a couple things out?
I'm researching otters for a project, an otter costume. First off, I read that sea otters have smaller tails. That doesn't seem to be the case with your depiction. Second, I spent a lot of time looking at Giant Otter pictures (Pteronura brasiliensis). The tails are wing-like, much thinner and wider, especially at the tip, to allow the big animal to swim more efficiently. They're also huge, vastly dwarfing other species (giants can be up to 6 feet long from nose to tail!)
Anyway, great piece. Please check out my latest journal entry. I'm looking for input from the fandom on characteristics and appearance of the otter costume I'm making. I'd like the costume to be based on a non-commercial character generated with input from the fandom at-large.

Oh, yes! The way you draw otters is delightfully cartoony and expressive! My favourite part is the way you draw their floatey whiskers!
To draw every species of otter while giving them their own individuality is a great task... plus informative!
I should give mention to the Sea Otter's moustache, which is a nice touch.
