Joey and Kari work together on their garden, sharing tips and methods with each other. Joey seems to be particularly interested by the pepper plant, as Kari tells him that he should "tickle" the bottom of it so the roots come out and integrate into the ground better when planted.
We discovered that both our characters have an interest in gardening, so we thought it would be fun to come up with a piece showing this. For my personally, I enjoy gardening because I know I'll get to work with better home-grown ingredients with my cooking.

I do landscaping for a living and yes that trick works but if you space the plants out just right from one another tickle them on the sides as well to ensure three layers of roots. Bone meal also is great to integrate into the soil but be sure to get your soil tested so see what nutrients are needed to be added. Ewing, if you have one, has great service and if you bring them dirt plugs to test out they will send it out to the testing facility. Its cheaper and will help grow stronger healthier plants.

Thanks for the tips! I end up loosening a lot of dirt when I free each plant from their plastic pots. And we often mix cow or sheep manure into the dirt, as well as shrimp and chicken for some other individual ones. This has been working pretty well for us these past few years and we've been getting a lot of crop in the end :3
