sooooo the piece I'm trying to work through for Gennii was starting to cause me to pull out my hair because I'm attempting to use a different colouring style on it. Soo I decided to say "EFF THIS" for the night and just doodle....
This is what appeared 15 minutes later.....
I like it.. i really do.

Practice is my very first recommendation.... I even need to take my own words into advice from time to time because i really dont practice nearly as much as I should.
As to software.... if you're specifically wanting to do digital, I'd say either Photoshop or Open Canvas (oC for short) Please though please please please buy the software.... There are some versions of oC that are freeware, but it takes a bit of hunting for it. ((sorry Former art student and the class on ethics and the like drove that into my brain!)) Also Gimp (freeware I believe-unknown though b/c I do not use it myself.)
In addition, for digital work.... I HIGHLY recommend getting a waccom tablet to use. Drawing with a potato isn't easy or even recommended.
Though for starting out, Pencil, paper, and a decent scanner is the best way to go. Mastering Digital art is a bit time consuming as well as can cause one to pull hair out quite a bit.
~thinks~ that's kinda it... other then that, Maybe doing tons of figure studies/drawings... this can range from puting a DVD on pause at a particular figure tht you think you want to try to draw and take time to draw it.... go to a zoo and study the animals, heck check if your local art school has some cheep Figure Drawing Classes, or maybe even some drawing club in the area. Other then that, quick 5 to 10 minute roughs help as well... for these type of roughs you're not looking to create a fine piece (though some of them are AMAZING) But you're looking for trying to get the general shape/motion that your hand should go in to begin building a basis and ground work on.
Mind you, every artist has their own ideas and input on how to start out... So this is just my own thoughts and ideas on the topic. Go and see what other artists say... Most of them, yes their top suggestion will 9 times out of 10 be practice!
Hope this helps out!

I don;t see it.. and when I try the trick of hitting "Download", I get:
The image “http://d.furaffinity.net/art/kitwic.....om_wing.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
Damned annoying, if you ask me.... Ah, well... I'll just keep waiting for it.
