DeviantArt post
Okay. So in keeping with the rest of this month's drawings, here's another dude. I'm calling this month Dude-uary now. Seriously, so many dudes.
I wanted to round off the month with that salamander drawing, but it's proving very difficult, so I rustled up a hunky Umbreon in a few hours. It probably took around the same amount of time as Umbra from last year.
It was really difficult to do the sketch for some reason. I just couldn't get the head shape right for so long. I had the same problem with Umbra, actually. And it took three attempts. You can view the two I ended up scrapping in the description of the DeviantArt post.
For the first one, I wasn't quite sure what I was going for with the facial expression. I was torn between making the smile warm or smug, and I couldn't get it right either way. Also, it kind of made me uncomfortable. So I made him look more bashful (the head here is tiny, but I would have fixed that if I'd continued with it). That didn't really work either, so in the end I went for a slightly shy look. And for the shading, I deliberately left it quite rough, because I liked the sort of painterly look. On a side note, this is the smallest "proper" digital drawing I've done in ages. You're seeing the full resolution right now.
Here's the rest of Dude-uary:
Dusk - a handsome, well-colour-co-ordinated furry dragon.
Salamander Sketches - a salamander (and his butt).
Cutie in a Hoodie - a cute Leafeon in a hoodie and nothing else.
Yes, yes, all right, I'll draw some girls next month.
