The even sadder truth...
The Lacklove is an idiot. He's educated, yes. Powerful? Without question. Intelligent? No. He's petty, arrogant, vindictive, and unlike his father...stupid.
Gawain relies on his station to get what he wants. Few furs respect him for who he is. Most "respect" him out of fear , or respect him for his father or uncle's sake.
WWV, on the other hand, has many furs who genuinely respect him for who he is, even if they don't like him. He could topple the crown if he was of the mindset. With his Talents, [Taeshor] voice and those who've actually fought with him, he commands a loyalty without even trying, that Lacklove could never even dream of.
WWV doesn't because of his freely given fealty to King Adler and Prince Roland. Gawain Pissypants would do well to heed his father's and his uncle's advice.
