My first try with a 4H hardness pencil along with my usual HB mechanical pencil... yep, it really makes it easier to do a faint sketch, and soft shades.
Oh and this is supposed to be Alis, if any of you still remember her, just in a different outfit(not that my foxgirls are very distinct with their looks...)

I wonder why she's looking like that. someone coming along she doesn't want to meet?
Agh, I tried my hardest to make it seem like she's subtly smiling, but now it just comes off as her being pensive or unhappy... small things mean a lot in expressions.
I alos think it's partially the gesture and the stiff pose she's standing it that brings the impression across.
yes, sometimes subtle details mean a lot. but then again I have experienced those, too. wanted to do a grumpy fox sitting in a chair, and he became 'bored' instead. sometimes they pick up a life of their own. *shrugs* just go with it.
*shrug* oh well, sometimes it happens, but it's not very desired when trying to draw a comic, though. But such is life, just got to keep going with what it gives you
hm, you are planning on a comic? in that case maybe changing the point of view might help if the expressions go wrong. sometimes with me, a pose refuses to work untill I change it, sometimes quite a bit.
