This is an Alebrije inspired costume, this one is directly inspired by Pepita from the Disney Pixar film Coco. This is meant to partly be a cosplay of Pepita and partly an original design. I am glad I decided not to do a straightforward cosplay of Pepita as it allowed me to pour so much more detail, heart and thought into every stage of building this, this piece is now very personal to me and I simply adore her.
Alebrijes are brightly colored and covered in intricate designs, I tried to capture this with the use of bright printed fur fabrics. I carefully chose my materials so as they would compliment each other and reflect my inspiration source. Of the printed fabrics the spotted legs is the boldest, but my gosh do I love that fabric to death, and I feel the spotty legs nicely balance the intricacy of the face.
As this is going to be a premade to sell (after I wear it to a few events) this uses a resin head base, this one from Stuffed Panda Studios. I set it to fit my glasses, added to the chin shape, added saber fangs and altered the muzzle a bit. I also completely removed the eye area on the blank and cut out the entire red area to make it all mesh so vision is hugely wider (I get panicked by claustrophobia if vision is too limited) I used smaller eyes, and I cut away the sides of the eyebrow ridges as I like to set my eyes angled out slightly so the follow effect is more visible from the sides.
I know there was some concern on if these Alebrije inspired suits I am making would pay proper homage to the Mexican art form, I dearly hope I have proven myself with this first one as I love her to bits and I hope you like her too <3

Alebrijes originated with an artist's dream in the 1930's and his creatures were quite lovingly adopted into the Mexican culture as spirit guides. They are traditionally hand crafted of paper mache or wood and covered in intricately painted designs, a lot of care and thought goes into each one. It fits up to 210 pounds 5'4" easily. Head is adjustable, easily fits up to a 25 inch brow, glasses friendly. The feet are a women's 9 and you walk flat footed, the tippy toe look is all an illusion created by hoof shape, leg shape and the placement of the long fur down the back :)
Sweet! Thanks so much for the response. ^_^ I can't believe that the walk is flat-footed; I thought it HAD to be an illusion, but I really can't tell from the photos. Well done!
Supposing I were lucky enough to be able to buy it when you sell it, do you think it would work on someone 5'6"? Would modifications need to be made for it to look good and be comfortable on someone 145 - 150 pounds?

it is sounding like you'd be a bit too tall and quite too slim to make this work (60 pounds less is a lot for alterations) I am open for Alebrije inspired costumes right now and while I can't make one exactly like this I can do another regal horned winged hoofed feline with this same head base and in your favorite colors :)
Ooooooh man, that is very tempting! :) How long will you be open for these? I just bought a suit recently so it'd be quite a bit of a splurge and I'll have to think it over for a bit. That being said, I've admired your suits for awhile, and have been obsessed with the Alebrije suit idea ever since you started talking about it! I'm not attached to feline, specifically, so, just out of curiosity, which other species would you particularly like to create Alebrije suits of? Of course, horns on ANY creature are always welcome! :D
any species works, I just got a Curiosity bird blank to make one if you like birds, I also have some dogo bases, I am itching to do a mostly blue horse, chimeras of many animals, anything. I am tech open all year for art lib customers but right now the iron hot and ready for striking for Alebrije inspired things :)
if I keep this one you want something like this in another set of colors?
I may just keep this one, depends on if the amount of fanfare I get when I do my events makes up for the fact this is a little more effort to wear than most my suits (but not as bad as Kass ugh, people love the crap outta Kass or he'd be gone lol)

Easily one of the most impressive and intricate suits I've seen you build in my 9 years watching you! Bravo on this artistic Masterpiece. Really shocked about the backlash you've been receiving for these recent suits. Don't let the haters get you down, keep creating! You've always been so good at it from my standpoint.
