Thruler's Unmajestic Boom Dragon (IBSFA)
A painting I started last year but completely forgot about until I was glancing through my IBSFA folder today and finished it off in today's stream. This is one of two high altitude dragon types that share a common difference to the average dragon species.
Observed and categorized by a scholar named Alfred Thruler, the Unmajestic Boom dragon is named for two reasons; the latter for the sound it causes when in flight, and the former for it's unique landing technique of skidding into the ground belly first.
Unlike other flight capable dragons, the Boom Dragon is approximately 50% head and features small, stubby wings that can not take the dragon into flight under their own power. Instead the Boom dragon propels itself with what can crudely be described as a long, continuous fart. Thruler theorized that the internal digestive system is a reverse of other dragon species that can "breathe" fire from their mouth, as well as allowing a continuous propulsion from the rear end, or as in the case of the Boom Dragon, the two anuses on on either side at the base of the tail.
Take off for the Boom dragon is violently loud, although it seems to take a few seconds for it's internal "engine" to start up, producing a series of bangs that turn into one continuous roar. Thruler observed that the Boom dragon launch seems to be quite slow for it's loudness, but once - as Thruler theorizes - it gets into motion and it's large nostrils scoop up more air, the dragon's acceleration suddenly becomes incredible, and at it's highest speed it's body produces a sound like thunder as it passes by.
The stubby wings and webbed toes seem to be ideal for the high speeds of the Boom dragon, letting the creature manoeuvre swiftly without tearing it's limbs off. However those wings are not good for gliding and at very low speeds the dragon seems to have the flight ability of a brick.
