Currently in the process of creating a college dorm room, but, as you can see, it's nooooooot quite finished yet. But I wanted to see what you guys thought of it! Obviously the bed is going to get a mattress in the final product, and I plan on adding a small sofa/futon underneath as well. Across from the sofa will most likely be a tv, and I was thinking whoever is lounging on the sofa could be playing video games? Once all that is figured out and done, there's a chance I'll pass this off to a friend to possibly do a YCH. Any interest?

I did originally have it from the floor up, but wanted to explore a way so the frame would't block the view of the couch. I'm not a huge fan of the wooden frame/dresser look since I made the floor hardwood instead of carpet. If I changed over to a metal frame, I could probably get away with making the ladder look bigger without taking up too much viewing space. I feel like I've seen some people's dorm or frat rooms with ceiling attachments, but maybe my execution is a little off.
It's just more difficult to pull off, mechanically. You need a strong ceiling, and some anchoring in it that holds all the weight, and anchoring from the bed to the beams. They'd probably be metall, then. It's much easier to rely on "push on top of each other" instead of "pull from above".
Ofc, that's just mechanical comments, to make the room more believeable. You're free to apply artistic liberties if that's in the way of your primary focus.
About the floor, I'd tone down the color contrast between the individual segments. They're hugely different and distract from anything else. I think they would even work if they were all the same color.
