What "joke" was there? These writers, who admit to never having watched the original series btw {which certainly explains their horrible portrayals of the characters}, have made FIVE EPISODES dedicated to whining about people not loving their show, and in the first of them even went as far as saying via clumsy allegory that the original was never cool and making it seem like everyone who wants more material like the original series just want everyone turned into friggin' Lobo.
That whole "never watched the show" quote was actually only a joke, but people talked over them after the fact, which only spread the false notions that these guys have zero clue of the source material that they're working with.
In reality, there are still a bunch of people who currently work on TTG, also worked on the original show. Including Glen Murakami who pitched the original show to Sam Register, who approved of both shows. And on top of that, if you look closely or watched enough of the show, you'll notice that the guys working on TTG are actually well-versed in DC Comics.

Ah, yes, false notions, that must be why everything about every character is horribly wrong. Actually, if they DO know these characters well, that makes it even worse, cause they're deliberately choosing to portray the characters poorly. And then still making bitchy little strawman whinefest episodes when people don't love it.

Something can be a comedy spinoff without being an intelligence-insulting load of thoughtless lowest-common-denominator trash that makes everyone horribly out of character, treats children like idiots and apparently thinks repeating the word "waffles" for 10 minutes is funny. It can also do so without the writers making multiple pathetic "take that" attempts in response to people not unanimously loving it, trying to force the idea that it's everyone's new favourite show, and insinuating that it's better than the original series ever was.
No, I'm not. Like, at all. I'm saying the writers assume their viewers are idiots. Their intended audience being young children. And I feel it's wrong to assume kids are idiots who don't deserve better, especially in an age where we have children's shows that have set the bar so much higher.
What's amazing is that there are people who look at this show, see egomaniac Robin, semi-literate girly-girl Starfire, idiot loafer Cyborg, even bigger idiot meat-eater Beast Boy, and Grumpy Cat-looking Raven who exists only to be memed and who the writers completely ignore the backstory of to refer to her as "a demon girl who prefers to be left alone"... And they'll say there's nothing wrong with it.
Me, hate a show that shits on everything the characters were supposed to be, panders to the lowest common denominator, treats children like morons, has five episodes whining about/strawmanning critics, and forces itself into almost every timeslot so it can pretend to be a huge success and everyone's "new favourite show"? No, never! :V
Honestly, given the age of their target audience, I have to wonder who that episode was even for. One moment they're making an entire episode dedicated to saying cartoons are for children and adults who like them need to grow up and move on, the next they have an episode where everyone's slobbering over Raven's legs and they straight-up make a masturbation joke.
This comment section is painful and full of the words: stupid, intelligence, and idiots. therefore i deem it pointless to read, (excluding the lewd comments, besides i like the show.) if ya'll wanna debate quality don't make it the quality of a cartoon spinoff, honestly for shame you guys...
