I love videogames but I do not consider myself a very skilled one. I can play them, and if I like them enough, finish them. But I am not a "pro"..if they ever exist. And I play more for fun and because I do enjoy them.
I love the King of fighters series. It was a love I shared with my friends and my brother. They were (or are) way much better than I. I used to get dissapointed about it but not anymore because it was fun with all the teasing and jokes. But sometimes, must of times, they never stand the fact that I do win them once in a while. They could make all the jokes when I was losing but if I won they tend to make annoying trash talk.
That was like 10 years more or less.
I have never been a huge fan of the Smash bros. series. Nothing against them, just not the kind of game that drives me wild. But it is fun playing it with friends...or at least it was until last night.
I only used Link and DK mainly because Link was very speedy and DK because is hot =P but sometimes I did won with Link and most of times I did lose with DK. Never cared because as I said I was never a fan of the series. But then I met Ness and found it a very cool character. And amazingly I started to kick my friend's butt many times. Then he started to say a very annoying tantrum disguised as a joke about how I can only win with beginner's characters, that I do use real ones, that I have to learn to play...at first I thought he was joking but after 1 FUCKING HOUR of that I really got fed up and told him:
"dude seriously if you don't shut the fuck up, I'll shut down the stupid game, ok?!"
He was making fun of it....until I get close to the wii and was about to press the power button. He then started saying grudgly "ok ok ok fine!"...fucking moron.
I bough the game with the wii to play it with my friends. But I shouldn't never do that. My brother only cares about the stupid rabbids game *rolls eyes*, the other he doesn't understand it and the only one I used to play with it acts like a little child like....10 YEARS AGO?!
That's it. I'll trade that stupid game. I won't stand idiotic tantrums with morons with a game that I DON'T LIKE.

Oh people will do whatever they can to explain how they loose.
If it's a game you enjoy you just got to ignore them and if it's a game you don't enjoy just (as you said) don't play it. I get into the same arguments with my younger brother but we just stopped playing the game together (in the case of Melee) and with Brawl we decided the game is just unbalanced so we somehow enjoy it with out the arguing (no matter the person who uses Ike ALWAYS WINS in this house) : P

I use Toon Link and Kirby and my Brother uses Ike.
The thing is we switched places and we discovered that I had a tendency to always win when I used Ike and he used his other favorite (Fox). It's also interesting that who ever is using Ike when we play has a lower win rate on larger stages.

Great ways to get back on your friends in SSBB:
- Swallowcide with Dedede: suck up your opponent and jump off the ledge. Only works if you were close to the ledge to begin with and hold down as you fall (doesn't work with Kirby), easier at higher %s.
- Grab them with Bowser and forward throw off the edge of the stage.
- Plug in a Gamecube controller and use that.
- Pikachu Thunder spam (down b) preferably on a simple stage like Battlefield.
- Metaknight. Most of his moves are pretty cheap but neutral b can literally be spammed and there's not much your friends can do to stop you.
Believe me, if they thought Ness was a cheap character, they haven't seen anything.

I like to use Link and Donkey Kong too. I also use Sheik, Yoshi (don't laugh), Lucas and Wario. Even though there are some gamers who consider characters that have those tactics that are considered "cheap", gives the characters a reputation of being a "noob" character. Instead, why can't they just find a way around the tactic and punish? Keep playing Smash and kicking his butt! Don't care about what he says about what characters you use to beat him in! Next time, when you're playing DK, just grab him, pick him up and walk off the edge with him! That'll show him!

link, wolf, green bowser, green charizard, lucario. My main guys! Oh, hahah you play as Dk cause' he's hot Lol. (I WANT FUNKY KONG!!) I hear the same crap with Wolf. I just keep fighting or just switch characters. But I'm usually on WiFi. Wolf is called a "tourney fag" cause he's a mix of strong, fast, skilled, and has handy moves. Homophobes... Hey, but don't let people get you down, it's a game! Ness is HARD to use... DK is hot, but FUNKY is so, ya' know... Funky! XD
My friend couldn't believe I beat him in Soul Calibur (well, I did play Soul Edge for a good while of time). He forced me to rematch and then feeling satisfied after beating the crap out of me thousand times.

I love Smash Bros. Some of my family like to play it too when they come over so it has like over 300 hours run time, mostly not me playing!
The ironic thing though about this is that isn't Ness considered a fairly advanced character?? His recovery by hitting himself with PK Thunder takes more work than most characters' recovery.
I'm not very competitive. I play games for fun. Sometimes I lose and sometimes I win, though I tend to prefer cooperative modes in many games. There are some Smash Bros. players who ONLY play on flat stages with no items, because that makes skill at the game count more. They even rank the characters based on which are supposedly always better when in the hands of great players. If that makes them happy that's fine, but I really don't mind if items are on or playing on wacky stages because most of the reason I love the series is the wacky mayhem with beloved characters.
