I went for something a little more... Evil and "The Lion King"-like, so I altered Janja's design according to TLK's hyenas'.
And I wanted to go cliché and therefore added a scar on his face (to hint at both Kovu's and Scar's, as a mockery in fact...)
He's in his older days here. I added some white mane hairs and thought he looks more charismatic like this.
