Most of our spaceborn weaponry is meant for ship to ship combat or ship defense. Most of the ship-to-surface weapons are simply too heavy to be fired without destroying everything in it's vicinity (smallest arms are "ender" 10t Nukes).
You have to take into account the fact that we are trying to preserve ourselves and protect our cities and planets, not bomb them to shreds.

I've just loved the idea of gatling artillery ever since I saw it in Ground Control XD
Rotating barrels go *BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG*, target goes *BOOM BOOM AIEEE-BOOM BOOM...*. Spotters are good things to have.
Better hope those guys can aim, though, or it could get rather messy XD
