Apha (Nix's brother) is married and these are his yen-wife and yon-wife. Traditional yohipharian relationships are triads between three of their four native genders: a yen, a yon and a yan.
In yohi society, yen are often stereotyped as quiet and anxious, usually suited to being scholars and engineers. Yon are spiritual and political leaders, well-spoken and wise, and most positions of power are occupied by yon. The bigger yan are protectors but also responsible for watching over eggs and raising the very young (kind of like big moms). The rounded frills, redder tones, and bigger hips of the yohi on the left there belong to the yon gendered phenotype. Yon are the only ones capable of laying eggs, but it's not correct to consider them to be girls.
