Sad Fat Bear... No Happiness from the Freezer Section

Caught in the Act

"Eh? Where'd you come from all of a sudden? ... Don't give me that look. I can eat whenever I want! Right? So, promise not to tell anybody and maybe I won't eat you too. 'Kay?" *offers the meat* "I got ham. Want some?"

Only a couple weeks and another bear drawing? Let me know what y'all think! I'm still inspired from last time. Maybe this'll be my thing from now on. :D

Based loosely upon a Yu-Gi-Oh card entitled "Just Desserts." Yeah, I'm a dork. :) The card shows some corpulent demon thing in a similar pose eating meat in the dark. Well, it ain't dark, and he ain't a demon, and the meat is different, but the basic element is there. This tubby bear is supposed to have a look that's one part surprised from being sneaked up on, one part guilty from getting caught in mid-bite/slurp with drool and meat hanging out, and one part of a screw-you-I'm-hungry attitude. I think I achieved that. And the hamhock actually looks kinda like a hamhock. Sweet! I even managed to get the bite marks to look not totally horrible.

I'm pretty pleased with it except for the hand. It should be pudgier. And not as suck. :\ Also not sure if I should have added the shoulder marks. I thought of leaving off the tail too. It doesn't quite look right. But, no tail didn't look quite right either, despite the allure of the buttcrack top. I guess I could have justified it by saying he's actually an anthro which makes the tail optional, but in the end I had to stay true to the species in that respect. *SIGH* Compromises...
ANYHOO, here he is, flabby and just a tad messy. Not at all what I set out to draw, but that's how he ended up. Perhaps the breaking bunk bed pic I had in mind will come to life another time. But for now, he's sitting on his ass and chowing down on Wizards and Warriors style MEAT, lookin at you like you're the crazy one! And that's good, right? :D

YAY! You drew another one! You're good at drawing your character the same as before. Like the angle of the face. I have a tough time with angled faces with how the nose and front of the muzzle should look at an angle with the face. The paw looks right. You made him left pawed so the viewers could see what's you're chowing on! You got a good grip on that ham btw! I don't think you'll share! LOL! A bear's tail is 4inches long on most of the bear species. They don't have much of an butt cheeks irl. The tail would actually lay across the ground. I fiind myself asking the same question on shoulder lines. I usually draw what it looks like without shoulder lines and with to see what I go with. Makes him looks like a grizzly bear with a hump on his back the way grizzly do irl.

I'd thought about changing some lines in the face, but I figured why mess with what works? I was surprised at how well the angle of the face turned out. I struggle with muzzles, especially at angles and from a side view. I'm surprised I didn't erase a hole in the paper getting the details near the nose and mouth the way I wanted...
Awww, he's not a greedy bear! But, you're probably right. Who's gonna want a half-eaten ham? Sharing is overrated anyway. ;)
Hmmm... I'm not exactly sure what scale I drew the big guy on, so I don't really know what a 4 inch tail would translate to in the picture. At least that size, but maybe not all the way to the ground, because I thought of him as kinda oversized (read - SUPER FAT). I tend to cartoonify characters anyway, so I guess I'm not a purist on complete anatomical correctness. Either way, he's got a tail and butt cheeks too, so it's like the best of all worlds. I think?
I hadn't thought about the hump! I usually think of the grizzly when I'm thinking of bears, so I guess maybe I had the right idea. Lucky!
You have a lot of info about bears irl dude! I'm impressed! How come you know so much?

I'm crazy! Just kidding! Bears have fascinated me ever since I was a kid! Anything bear related I would watch, read about it,learn as much as I could about this critter. Cartoons, movies, comics, books, paintings, you name it! Um dakoda-bear dakoda-bear muddypaws muddypaws fuzzybaloo fuzzybaloo Know more about them a little more. Especially dakoda-bear dakoda-bear! He even told me that a polar bear's nut don't hang outside it's body but moreover inside it's body and same for the elephant! "Google" is your best friend! I know everybody draw their character the way they want. I wonder do most of these artist know that an animal's ass is exactly under it's tail other than what looks like to be nearly 3 inches below it?! There's another artist that draws everything where it should be. I can't remember his name. When an animal sits on it's rump, the anus is just a fraction of an inch from "touching" ground and the tail would lay across the ground. Just see how a dog or cat sits. Since a bear's tail is short,it can sit on it and it's long enough to cover the anus. Quit lookin! LOL! Get you some bear statutes. That gives me a reference when I draw.

I've always been a fan of bears since I was a kid. I was even told once that I'm kinda like a bear - I like to eat, I like to sleep, I get grumpy when I have to leave my cave (room), and I've got the body with hair and fat (or used to, not so much now). They're my favorite animal in all their incarnations, including polar and panda. Wolf is a close second, but bear definitely wins in my book. I'd really like to get an up close look at one someday.
Hey, I recognize these artists! I've probably got some of their pics faved. I really should watch them, they've got some neat stuff!
Hmmm, good idea about the statues. I have a bobblehead, but I don't think that's exactly accurate. :D And thanks for that link, there's some useful info there!
I know I tend to break the rules artistically sometimes, but I think it's not so bad because I'm not shooting for a total realism style. That's waaaaay beyond my reach... But, it doesn't hurt to know how it's supposed to look and try to get it somewhat right. At least then it's not ignorance, but a stylistic choice. In my mind, if I draw it and ask somebody, "What is it?" and they say, "It's a (whatever animal it's supposed to be)." Then I'm good. As long as it looks like what it's supposed to look like and I'm pleased with it.

Right on! I haven't watched fuzzy and muddypaws yet. I'll do that. Yes! Your bears are bears! Keep it up! I'm a german shepherd fan too! I have 4 of them! I like animals and some bugs. But bears rule! New Mexico's state mammal is the black bear! My state is awesome! Don't know why I still stay in Dallas Texas!

ps. I like my ham "well done" or close to burnt. I am a very picky eater. I've been run out of many of friends houses because of that!
