Coming from a family of island-dwelling pacifists, Lao has always learned to try and avoid argument or fights whenever possible. However, all of his beliefs were destroyed the day intruders broke into his home while he was away. His family, unfit for even a strong defense, were all horribly wounded during the attack. Returning home with his sister to find his family unconscious and their small island house ransacked, Lao chose to begin training his body to become stronger and better so that he could protect his family properly. His younger brother also attends the PCA as a sophomore, but Lao tries to give the boy space so that Jung can learn his own way of life.
Lao is very chill and very kind. He cares about how everyone is treated and its because of that mannerism that he catches the attentions of an underclassman named Ren -- who now views Lao as one of his most important friends. Lao is a very 'third party' person, who very rarely will let his personal opinions and feelings get in the way of an argument. It also has become a great asset to him in the few battles he participates in, allowing him to keep a calm and cool demeanor throughout.
He's a people-watcher. That's his hobby. He enjoys just sitting quietly and watching others interact and go about their lives.

Okay, the shorts are basically what he wears when he's by himself or with family. Growing up on an island like his makes you less self-conscious. He does like to wear clothing, but only when necessary. You're basically seeing him in his casual me-time clothes.
