Tried my hand at making a tutorial!
Its uh...a bit verbose. Sorry about that. Tried my best to condense it down but it involves both photoshop techniques and also fundamental art stuff I think about when painting so yeah.
I'm releasing the tutorial itself to the public but if any of you guys are interested in also having the PSD for the painting, the brushes used, and future cool stuff like process videos and even more tutorial content, consider checking out the Hax patreon

Excellent tutorial, and I agree with pretty much all of your thoughts on art theory. Took me years to figure out most of these things on my own, so this is valuable advice to newcomers/ less experienced artists.
That photograph overlay isn't really something I've tried before -- Could be fun to play around with.
