Here again is the car that I am trying to my grubby little paws on. She is a '59 Ford Edsel Ranger. Unfortunately, the two left side tire are gone and going due to dry rot and I think that some punks are trying to vandalize the car as well. I am honestly surprised that a car 50 years old is in this great condition. Once I get my paws on her, I am going to do the basic overhaul, before working on the detail for her transformation into the ride that she has always dreamed about

Been talking to the owner of the car now for eight months. I do know that it is going to cost me about $5,000.00 to $7000.00 initially to get her up and running, and then about 65K to bring her up to date with a 800hp/600ft lb torque engine with a 5 speed tranny, power steering, power brake, all wheel disc brakes, safety glass all around, possible airbags, hidden seat belts, etc, re-enforced rear for towing another classic (a 30ft Airstream)
*flinch* Almost two grand for a low-trim, non-running Edsel Ranger (basically a Fairlane with different sheetmetal) four-door? He's asking way, way too much, hon. Drive him down to no more than $1200, and you'll have a decent deal. These cars are uncommon, yes... but they're still not particularly desirable to collectors. Don't let him fool you! If it were the top-level Citation or Corsair, that would be different story.
While the Edsel was manufactured by the Ford Motor Company, the cars are known as Edsels, not Ford Edsels. This is a bit like calling a Zephyr a Ford Lincoln Zephyr.

And think about what I am planning on doing to the car when I get it. I want to put a high HP/torque engine with a 5 speed tranny, power steering, power brakes, safety glass all around, hidden seat belts, state-of-the-art sound system, beefed up rear suspension w/tow bar and hitch while keeping the car stock from all outside appearances, including the interior. There is a reason for the motor and beefed up rear suspension, I am going to get a 30ft Airstream Trailer (you know, the Silver Bullet http://www.airstream.com/products/2.....ted/index.html). Now that is two classics combined into a package to die for
The Edsel is a serious venture of a purchase, if only because the cars are EXTREMELY rare and poorly-supported in the classics market.
"The Ghost" looks like a beauty, but I would personally invest in a similar Ford model that had a better production run, if only for the ease of acquiring parts.
Besides, it seems like a sin to heavily modify an Edsel... They're such a collectible in original condition - you want to replace the engine with something less conventional?
