In my experience it seems like those who like Toriel the most have less of an Oedipus Complex and more issues with regression, wanting to take on Frisk's role as the nurtured child to a loving mother they may or may not have had in reality. I do think that the political climate is connected; I've had a theory that popular media is increasingly escapist and reality-denying due to an underlying belief among the younger generations that the world is increasingly unable to be fixed, and so people want to imagine completely different worlds and abandon this one. You could argue that is the major appeal of furries in general, the escapism of leaving behind your body and species and choosing your entire existence.

I didn't asked to be personally attacked. But in all seriousness I seek comfort in large, motherly furries because I never got any love as a kid.
