Lots and lots of critters!
I recently bought Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (and Ages!) off eBay because nostalgia was hitting me hard. After enjoying both, I realized that there really aren't that many 2D pixelated games out there that scratch the itch I get from them. I thought about it a while and realized Oracle of Seasons/Ages + Stardew Valley (but with more focus on crafting, adventure, and combat) would make for a great game. The idea has been in the forefront of my brain for the past week and I can't seem to shake it. Problem is I have minimal experience with game coding, I've only done maybe one pixel art piece, I've never made chiptune music, and I have no animation experience. So me making this game on my own is very unlikely :'3
Despite that, I felt doodling critters would help with my current artblock, so I went ahead and made up a page of basic beasties as if I were making the game. I used a slightly edited line brush and went for a much more chibi, cartoony style. Also tried focusing on drawing out big shapes for the pre-sketches instead of being precise and realistic, and also limited the line detail to get a simplistic feel to it. Something that I felt would make for an easy time of converting to a 2D sprite. It also dawned on me that this is the same kind of thing I did as a kid - fill up a page with monster doodles. Kind of a throwback!
After wrapping this page up, I showed them to an industry professional to get advice and was basically told that they suck :'3 oh well. It was worth a try.
So that's about it I'd wager. Its unlikely they'll go anywhere since I'm not well-versed enough in pixel animation. But we'll see. I might use a few of these for my Maera project too (the little blue snapper at the top is already in it, in fact). Regardless, enjoy u3u
