Another demonic illustration for Aeto, this time featuring a take on the neogi of Forgotten Realms - he explained he's never been particularly happy with any of the existing artwork for them and asked me to give them a shot! He wanted them to have big, heavy spider bodies, with articulate claws in place of pedipalps to serve as "hands," and evil, charismatic faces that nonetheless are true to their original eel-like inspirations. Arthropods aren't my forte, but I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

Spider eel, spider eel
Does whatever a spider feels!
I am really happy with these fellows as well; I think, in particular, the faces are the right balance of "intelligent" and "monstrous." When you look at them, you don't see a mindless animal, but you DO see something which likely isn't something you want to meet on a dark night.

Mean, ugly, and absolutely VICIOUS looking things.. * I LIKE EM!!* Their body structure makes me wonder ... do they have Venom as well as teeth like carnivores? ( meaning they can poison and incapacitate like a spider can, as well as web casting abilities, but can also "eat" like one of the biggest reptiles on our world, the Komoto Dragon < a RL and extremely vicious brute who's bite is so disease ridden from them being both top chain predators and scavengers, that it's incredibly poisonous by comparison.. >
Vicious things are pretty much always fun to paint >:3 And while I like pretty things too, I also enjoy ugly things - they're kinda therapeutic in a weird sort of way XD In this particular reincarnation, I think they're basically demons, not just nasty animals, so I imagine they can eat quite a monstrous amount and do all sorts of terrible things o_o
I love the concept.. I will definitely borrow a variation of that idea to make up a few of my own nasty beasts to put in some RPG games for those players that have read the monster books and "think" they know all the kinds of trouble they can run into..

Maybe differences between individuals; one with the hammers, one with the "hands?" I could see the green fellow being more of an enforcer, with the hammers, and the red one actually finding hands useful. It even seems within reason for such a species that they could have some conscious control over how their bodies develop.
What you want to do is pour molten metal down one of their tunnels. No more eel-spiders, and also you get a cool morbid sculpture afterwards :b http://storage.thesudburystar.com/v.....=1386872996172
