Here's a short Tone Poem I wrote for Orchestra a number of years back. This piece has existed in one form or another since 1996. I wrote this with Finale 2010 making use of the supplied Garitan Orchestral libraries, mostly as practice.
The piece itself always reminded me of a dark rider approaching in the distance, hooves thundering, wild and weird shadows flickering off his countenance, while the sky snarled at his approach. And then he rushes past and all is silent again but for the fading strain of his song.
One of my favorite works.

Well, I used it when I wanted to skip ahead to a part I was working on, to make sure it sounded right before I continued working... it worked by pressing the play button, and then holding down the fast forward button until you're about at the measure you want to hear playback from. But in Finale 2009, no matter how long you hold down the fast forward button, it always plays straight from the beginning, making me listen to the whole piece instead of just the area I wanted to check...
Hmm... I'll try that the next time I'm in Finale, (I sure hope that works in earlier versions)... thanks! :o)
But yeah, the fast-forward button is basically just supposed to let you skip through measures as the piece is playing... and for whatever reason that button does nothing in the 2009 version...

Hmm, weird. Of course, I'm still learning Finale myself. There's just so much there. All I really know is what the notation in the score means.
I'm going on vacation this week, so I might not have the internets for a few days. See you when I get back one way or another.

Aye, if you want to master everything Finale has to offer, it has a very steep learning curve. I've started with Finale 2003, stayed with that for a while... then got 2007, 2008 and 2009. Still don't know all the bells and whistles (mainly because they've added and changed so much), but I know how to assign an instrument, put in the notes (and rests, and expressions, and blah), then hit the "play" button... and for now, that's pretty much good enough for me...
Going on vacation, eh? Have a safe trip and lots of fun! :oD

I did, and now I'm back and crying in horror at how much I have to sort through on FA and elsewhere.
I'm pretty content with being able to create a score and hear it played back. I'm happy to finally have the full Finale so I can now use instruments like the Xylophone or Bells that I couldn't before because they weren't included in Print Music.
