Browning made that pistol specifically for European trials and eventually sold the manufacturing rights to FN Herstal, and it was chambered in 9mm because that was the most common cartridge among European armies at the time. The Hi-Power is one of the most Iconic pistols in history, along with the 1911.

Aside from not being the prettiest design, Glocks generously compensate with their splendid stability and durability. I've been along with a friend to compare a few handguns and some have rather merciless recoil, whilst the Glock isn't too much or too little. A very decent all-rounder. (I personally liked 1 of the other ones, but I might open myself up to scrutiny if I start calling favorites )
