Wll, according to his growth chart, Pwink's core is seemingly "turned off" when he has eyes. My guess is that since his body is so malleable, he can choose the functions of certain segments. so parts of him can develop tonsils for speech, a tongue with taste buds, hardened parts for nails, and more light sensitive parts for eyes.
