FloofySpaceBun wasn't quite sure whether to show Amethyst's buckteeth or not, so they drew two versions of my Inkbunny Secret Santa present for last year, one with and one without.
Normally, I draw my rodents with their buckteeth hidden when the mouth is closed since that's how real rodents do it (with the exception of naked mole rats which use their teeth for digging, so their lips close behind the incisors to keep dirt out of their mouths), but Floofy was correct in that rodents in art are often depicted with their buckteeth showing. I figure Amethyst is biting her lip as she playfully emphasizes her attributes.

Dr. Amethyst du Sciur is my character.

Hair isn't transparent, either. Quite a shock, right?
I suppose these choices are made when we're seeking what we feel is the best balance between human and non-human characteristics, which varies from individual to individual. One person might think visible squirrel teeth is okay while another thinks they ought to be hidden. Both are pretty much right since we don't exactly have giant, English-speaking squirrel-folk to examine.
