Officer definitely. Are you considering becoming a Reactor Officer perchance?
I'm just pleased that you managed to include the name and proper number for the Carrier.
Our Navy is awesome and I'm so proud to be able to support them with my work.
Really cute TF there.

I've certainly thought about it, as the Nuclear field is quite rewarding, as I have heard, and Physics was a major I've been considering. I might even be able to get into NUPOC halfway through my sophomore year at college if I go that direction, which would certainly be nice. ^^
What work are you in? I am curious now.
Thanks!

It is a good way to go. I work with a few people who were reactor officers back in their Navy days.
I do work with the design of the reactors. Can't really say more than that. But it's awesome work to do; especially knowing the good it means for our country.
And you keep up the good work!

Thanks! I'll probably need a bit of luck, as I have heard the interviews for it are a bit, say, intellectually rigorous. If it turns out I can't manage it, then I'll probably end up going SWO.
Aha! Aviation, eh? Very interesting work! ^^
Intelligence too, though I don't think that I'd ever want to go into it. A bit too much controlled/classified information to deal with for my liking.

Yeah, Aviation is interesting stuff. Thats cool, Intelligence isn't for everyone! I'm also looking at Public Affairs.
If you don't get into the NUPOC program, try out for BDCP or NROTC. If those don't work, then you can do what I am doing. Get your degree, then apply directly to Officer Candidate School.

I was looking at a study guide, for the enlisted ASVAB, and it appeared to be probably one of the easiest looking tests I have ever seen. The Officers one will certainly be more difficult, but I can't imagine that it will be a hard one ^^
I'm not at the stage that I need to talk to a recruiter quite yet, but when would you recommend doing so? End of my senior High-school year, Freshmen College or sometime afterwards?

Since you're high school, I would highly recommend you look into a Naval ROTC program first and foremost or the BDCP program. They will pay for your schooling, etc. Talk to a recruiter perhaps Senior year or Freshmen year of College yes. (But since you want officer, make sure you talk to an officer recruiter, not the ones you see in shopping centers and such (those are for enlisted))
As far as the ASVAB, yeah its easy. The OAR (Officer Aptitude Rating)/ASTB (Aviation Selection Test Battery) is pretty much the same test, but the Navy uses that one for officers rather than the ASVAB. There are books on the Officer Candidate Tests out there too, so look over those if you can.
Hope that helps you out.

Not sure what they are at the moment exactly (School hasn't posted anything yet) but last year I managed a 3.95 GPA, which is I am told is pretty decent. Will take the SATs... ugh... though I am not looking forward to them.
I have thought about the academy (seems like a pretty nice place, actually, and I do like the idea of going to such well structured university), but it would be a lot simpler in many respects just to stay where I am and then gain a commission with the degree I got here. And most of my college tuition is already payed for, but that money can't go to any college out of Florida (and to top it all off, most of the scholarships that I would be able to get will only pay for in state colleges as well). So... see what I mean?

Its cool, just letting you know its out there (sorry if I sound like a recruiter, trying to sell you the idea). I just want you to know that there are plenty of options out there to gain a commission other than applying directly to OCS. Since you're a lot younger than me, those options are more accessible to you than me. I actually kind of regret not applying for BDCP earlier on (I'm already 3 months away from graduation, and its a bit too late). That would allow me to immediate go onto Active Duty as an E-3 while in college, everything is pretty much paid for. I dont have to go to Great Lakes, IL for Boot Camp, wear a uniform, or cut my hair (well I guess I could do that). All they require you to do is to finish your schooling, and of course stay in shape! (you gotta take a PRT I think every 1 or 2 years while in this program) Upon completion, I would automatically advance to E-5, and go to Officer Candidate School. No need to worry about paying back loans. 3.95 is damn good! Thats about what I had when I was in High School.
Though with what I am doing (and it sounds like you're going to do the same), you will from what I understand enlist inactive (Officer Delayed Entry Program) as a rank of OCPO2 (Officer Candidate - Petty Officer Second Class) so you'll be getting E-5 pay while at OCS, assuming you get selected. Then once you graduate the 12 week program, you get your commission as an Ensign. (O-1)
Good luck to you whichever way you decide to enter into the Navy, hope to see you someday in the fleet ^^
