Well i never liked science-fiction so much so i dont like much booth of this movies.
But there is a 3. universe on the science-fiction genre and that is Frank Herbert's Dune. The Lynch movie is not good and not bad at all but the book is an inescapable milestone in the genre. Even the Star Wars and Star Trek is used up things from the Dune books.
