Judging from the words used in the first panel, to the action that happened in the second, someone dear you was lost to that machine, trying to save you by letting you live.

It is possible that person may not have been totally lost at that moment, but if they did survive, they have been lost from your life.

I may be wrong, I may be right. I am sure that people want to see more of this comic, myself included.
