There was no dignity in scuttling along, like a crab, due to a bad back through the whole con, I consented to use a scooter. It was offered me by the concom so that their GoH would be available and get to his program items on time. I had nothing more to loose, so consented to a photo.
Once I got used to the thing, though, I fell in love with it. Pity I couldn't bring it home with me and use it all the time! But I would probably never get my back in shape, then, and the rest of me would fall apart from disuse.
The photo was taken on the 5th. floor of the convention center, where most of the program was held.

Well... you hafta make yourself prominent in SF fandom to be a GoH at the worldcon. Not even Frank Miller can expect that. But smaller SF cons will sometimes invite comics or media guests, so cross your fingers. A free trip and all expenses paid is good no matter what the con.
Never been to Zoniecon. Was a GoH at the third ConFurence I think.

Oh...well...if I have to make myself prominent, I'm doomed (heh).
I doubled my watchers in FA. Actually, FoxyTangerine helped with that. She saw my gallery, complimented me on it, wondered why I had such a low watcher total. I explained I have an adversion to being watched by strangers who can't be bothered to comment to me, and that my efforts to promote myself never met with any success, so she pimped me (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/887806/), and there was a stampede. I spent the evening welcoming and thanking new watchers, replying to comments and shout outs, and feeling almost like a celebrity. One person made a huge difference whereas so MANY others had shrugged their shoulders and said "well...nothing I can do".
I should email you the story of CONvergence '99, of what a disaster it was for the "last-minute major guest".
ZonieCon was more of a gathering of around 50 people. But it felt like home.

Not everyone who views, comments. But I figure I'm doing alright if I manage a couple of dozen comments in the first week or so. Sometimes I get none, sometimes a whole slew. You can't predict what will turn people on.
Actually... yes, you can. The most popular artists on FurAffinity, with tens of thousands of views, even over 100 thousand, will be the most graphic spooge artists. If you want "success" by those terms, just cutify your characters, and get them dong blow jobs for all they're worth. An anime style can't hurt either.
But if you'd rather draw your own way, and what interests you, and that doensn't happen to be adolescent sex-fantasies on a make-believe scale, then you have to be content with more modest numbers of views, watchers, etc.

Guess I should be happy with what I have too then, seeing as how I'm actually drawing what interests me, even if it's not always explicit or adorable. If I continue trying to just please other people I'm probably just going to burn out and feel terrible about myself.
Nice scooter, man. Don't feel too bad about having to roam around on one, quite a lot of fantasy fandom is comprised of less mobile people who still manage to make it to cons.

At least the scooter isn't a permanent addition to my lifestyle... not yet at any rate. (As an aside, fandom's other Most Deserving Artist, Steve Stiles, is having trouble with his legs, and was asking me facitiously how I liked the scooter. He figured he might be needing one in time.)
More or less as I expected, what I really needed to get better was two or three days off my feet. Which during a worldcon I just couldn't get. And once I was home I was still dragged around here and there, by my house guest. But by Saturday I was so beat I had to put my foot down, and stay at home despite my guest's wandering proclivities. Once I had sufficient rest, I began to feel much better. I begin to feel I've done myself no permanent damage.

Before the "stampede", my mailbox usually had zip.
That does seem to be the "policy" in furdom for artists. "Draw fap-art or don't bother picking up a pencil". The same people are the first to overreact when they hear or read someone saying furdom is sexually motivated.
If that's the ultimatum, then I suppose I'll remain "the Great Unknown". I'll draw cheesecake, but it's not as if there's a line forming to see me draw one of the Carc & 'Slide girls getting banged.

I don't need it now. I just needed it then. I have back trouble from time to time, but usually I can just rest that day, and be better tomorrow. But because of the con I had to be on the go, go, go, without any time to recover. After almost a week of excruciating back pain that began almost as soon as I'd walked 100 feet, I gave in to the con's offer of the chair. Now that I've had time to stay off my feet, I feel much better. I would imagine I can do my usual mile of walking again. Tomorrow I need to go to the bank, so I'll find out...
I don't need it now. But I have back pain from time to time, and it takes a day to rest up before I'm back to normal. But because I was at the worldcon, I didn't have any time to recover, and the condition persisted for damn near two weeks. By then I was grateful for the indignity of using the scooter. Once I was home for a couple of days and off my feet, I began to feel a lot better.
Yep. A birthday gift from my sister. She took me to the Tilly place and I asked for something with a broad brim for shade, that kept its shape but was squashable enough to stick in a bag, and didn't make a silly statment like "I'm a macho Aussie, or maybe just some other kind of asshole." This is what they offered, and I'm quite satisfied.
Achuta Taral.........Perhaps you could have used this?

A little extreme. I don't need to lie down. For that mattr, I've been walking normally again for the last week or so. Even then, my problem wasn't my back, but a damned chest cold that reduced my lung capacity by about half. I did about two miles of walking today, and carried groceries home in a back back during the last mile. That's not a patch on the walking I could do a few years ago, or even three years ago, but as more than most people I know like to do.
