I was alloted two panels at Anticipation, free of charge. Normal panels are somewhat smaller than this, and I thought the number of pieces I picked to display might be too many, not too few. But there was enough space I might have hung another four without crowding.
None of the art is original. I decided to go for a low level of anxiety and framed only digital prints. Damned good thing I did, for two of the "frameless" frames broke and damaged the print. If they had been originals I would have been furious. (No more of that style frame for me!)
One of the amusing points about the exhibit is that there was no attempt to censor or bowdlerize the art at all. Yet some of the same prints (and their orignals) have been forced to hide their naughty bits under re*d dots, or in curtained off sections of the art show. Isn't it supposed to be furry fandom* that's obsessed with spooge? Yet it was SF fandom that took the naughty bits in stride, and furry cons that are prudish about it. Go figure.

The difference? Sci-fi fandom actually has mature adults capable of dealing with sexual subject matter, at least to a greater extent. Sci-fi has been around a lot longer. Furry fandom is greatly populated by horny teenagers and young adults who can barely contain themselves when they see a female nipple. So there needs to be a bit more external control over what people see.
SF! DAMMIT!
...and I wouldn't exactly call fen in general "mature," SF fandom has it's own {URL=http://www.thefreedictionary.com/peccadilloes]peccadilloes[/URL] and members of all ages and dispositions. (After all the golden age of SF is supposed to be 12.) I believe it's more a matter of the fen either not knowing what to do with adult material so they act cool, or else they do know and therefore don't freak. Sex came to SF fandom late; it came to Furry early, so enthusiasm has become a tradition among us. That's what I think.

Yeah, I'm finding out exactly the same thing when taking part in art exhibition in non-furry venues - very few people seem concerned about sexual subject matter as long as it's not outright pornography and the artist's work is coherent. The furry fandom as a whole seems to have a distorted view of its own output and an extremely naive view on what actually goes on in the greater art world. I think prints have to be censored because they are commercial material and so they fall under a different kind of legislation, whereas an art exhibition cannot be censored because it could be considered a violation of freedom of speech, but I'm just guessing here.
