Sometimes, you took it upon yourself to protect another life. You guide it on it's path, nurture it, take care of it.
And then suddenly, fate rips this little life out of your grasp. You are granted one last glance as it clings to you for dear life, hoping you'll protect it like you did before. One last look to see the terror in it's eyes. And then it slips right between your fingers, like it never were more than dust.
It doesn't matter how strong you are, or at least think you are, it doesn't matter how much you wish otherwise.
It's gone. And a ghost of a memory is all that remains.
I really needed to get this out of my system in order to be able to concentrate on my work. It took some persuasion to post it online though. Still hurts.

Little ferret cub, not even five months old. He seemed completely fine at one second, then started breathing heavily, and then his heart gave out all of a sudden. He was a beautiful, friendly and easygoing creature, who's sorely missed by both me and all my other ferrets.
I wish you all the best. *subtly smiles and wags her tail*
This is a very touching and beautiful picture and I'm glad you posted it. It is impressive that even during deepest grief you can transfer your emotions into art and come up with something so magnificent like this piece.

It's actually the easiest... and usually the only thing to do. If I just sat idly by, I'd go crazy or end up sitting in a corner for more than a month, weeping for what I've lost. Painting myself out of these things, I end up burning all my emotions in my art, shutting the brain down and just letting my heart and hand work the magic.
And when I go through that, I feel rejuvenated.
Art really is the best therapy :)

I'm sorry to hear but looking at this artwork just keeps my motivation of becoming a better artist up.
It's through events like these, sadness comes out. But artwork and speeches like these, some people are motivated to do better at something or go into a field or career. Very touching story, you did an excellent job and thank you for the motivation ^^.

sometimes losing a pet can be very harrowing.
animals are so simple: they require so little and yet their gratitude and affection can be ten-fold in return.
as a guardian, you gave it your all and i thoroughly believe your ferret was grateful for short time in which you invested your love and care.
over the years i've buried dozens of dogs and in spite of the cliche "time heals all wounds" i can't bring myself to properly grieve.
the way i see it, the more it hurts, the better: the pain and sorrow reminds us that we cared.
regards and sympathies for your loss~

This reminded me of when my mom used to rehabilitate wildlife, she got a bird with a wing that had healed wrong, thus disabling him to fly. He was named tweet and would sing the Andy Griffith tune. He got old, and eventually died doing what he loved though- taking a bath..
But aside from this, I offer you comfort, and wish the best to you and your ferrets in this time.. And so does my bunny.
