I was actually thinking that. But, like

I literally saw the Mostel version for the first time this afternoon... could just be nostalgia bias since I saw Lane's version first, but I feel like while both were good, Lane's was just, for lack of a better word, "tighter". no awkward pauses, consistent comedy packed into every square inch, even in the little details like the "King Leer" poster (which holy fuck I wish someone would print and sell!)

I have to agree that the Lane and Broderick is indeed better paced, but I recall reading that the original was made in 1968 on a tight budget and a short schedule. That would explain the haphazard timing and the slightly lame production values. That said, I'll watch anything with Zero Mostel in it.
