A Home for the Unwanted
"Much better today, sweetheart, much better!"
Omu cooed, stroking the small Sun conure's feathers gingerly. The conure fluffed out it's feathers and leaned into her touch.
The small grove was warm, sunlight dancing between the canopy and the leaf litter. The lively sound of small parrots and insects peppered the space between.
Here, they were safe. Any that had been abused or abandoned were stolen away during the night and taken to this sanctuary. It was a place no man alone could find, and only the truly pure of heart could enter.
Omu rose from the moss consumed stump she had been watching the sunrise bloom from. The small Sun conure had found itself a comfortable spot on the top of her head. Omu smiled, raising a claw to stroke the small parrot once more. Her voice was low and gentle, honeyed with affection and a desire to not wake the whole forest.
"Alright, I suppose you can come with me today. Just hang on tight, okay?"
The early morning fog clung to her ankles and sent a shiver of contentment down her spine and through her tail.
Silently she walked through the thicket, the green light shrouding her form.
As she sidled through the foliage, she would glance upwards from time to time. Carefully she took mental note of the amount of fruit in the trees, at times swiftly plucking one from a branch with an effortless hop.
A small flock of rainbow lorikeets just waking spotted the guardian and the ball of sunshine. With half lidded eyes they warmly nodded as Omu responded in kind, quietly resuming her work.
I felt like writing a little bit! :) In this piece, Omu is a sacred guardian that lives in an enchanted jungle. The jungle is a sanctuary for unwanted pets that Omu finds and recuperates. She takes care of their every need, and protects them from any forces that try to find the forest and harvest it.
The background is pretty experimental! I took a royalty free vector piece (original here) and painted my own elements into it! It was a really good study for getting better at my own background work!
