Judging from the relative location of the trainyard just below the wing, and the area of greenery at the bottom-centre of the shot, I can determine that this photo was taken somewhere over the Newtonbrook area of Toronto. Aren't online maps incredible, these days? ^__^
With another fantastic weekend at Furnal Equinox come and gone, I thought I go back to doing what I had done in 2016, which was to post a picture for each day spent away from home, and to use this as a broader description of my weekend than can be provided in a journal. Furthermore, it gives me a further reason to post some of my snaps, at which I am admittedly not the most consistent.
My Thursday actually began in the UK, sitting on a coach in Victoria Coach Station in London. After an hour or so, I would be at London Gatwick airport, in excessive time for an 11:00am departure for Toronto with Air Transat. I managed to fill my time at the airport chatting with close friends via social media, a power nap of about 2 hours, and a full English breakfast to herald the sunrise. About an hour before boarding, I set my watch and phone to four hours behind, in anticipation of arrival in Canada (for those who suffer badly form jetlag, this is one way to help offset it a little), and then got aboard for an on-time departure. The flight itself was decent enough, and I kept myself from sleeping by watching 'Darkest Hour' and 'Dunkirk', two films which seemed to compliment each other rather well, when seen back to back. Food was as might expect from a discount transatlantic flight, though at least the seat was comfortable, and I was in a window seat in the exit row.
We arrived into Toronto Pearson Airport about an hour early, and after a surprisingly short wait at the border, I entered Canada and made for the UP Express, which got me into downtown for about 3:00pm. I made for the Westin Harbour Castle, and after a brief exchange of messages, I met up with a very gentlemanly
to give him a brief tour of what would become the con space, in preparation for his first furry convention. After a good two hours of chatting with him, during which time we happened upon the ever-awesome
and
, I headed out to the Strathcona Hotel to await the arrival of my roommate. At around 6:15pm, the exceptionally kind and hospitable
arrived by motor, and after ridding myself of my backpack (I travel light, alright?), the two of us headed back toward the Westin for dinner and registration. Rather amusingly, the supersponsor's line was far longer than the attendee line, and so after picking up my badge and conbook (which in itself was brilliantly designed), we decided to head for a bite to eat in the hotel bar, and to return after the queue had shortened. If I remember correctly, I had a "Cast Iron Chicken Pot Pie" (make of that what you will) along with a couple of drinks, and after some light-hearted conversation, we headed back down to registration, and then back to the hotel. I believe I hit the pillows at around 10:30pm, and passed out with little encouragement.
By coincidence, that's what I shall be doing fairly soon, as it has just ticked over to 1am, here, and so I shall post my next update in the morning. Sleep well, everybody, and I hope you enjoy! ^__^
