Say what you like about the CN Tower in Toronto, but there's no denying that it's rather big.
Sunday began rather lazily, with a leisurely buffet breakfast at the Westin restaurant, and an early parting with my roommate as he headed off to the charity auction, while I made my way to the dealers' den to collect a couple of commissions. I arrived to find the den half empty, with St Patrick's having taken its toll the night before, so I sat with
for a short while to prevent him from nodding off to sleep. I then headed over to find a dealer rather upset that the lamination on a badge commission had been creased, but since it looked amazing and creases aren't a huge concern for me, I gave my best assurances that there was no need to worry, and a hug for good measure. I also took the opportunity to have a brief chat with
and
, who were seated just next door. At around 1pm, II decided to head out for lunch, and by sheer chance bumped into Soba and
heading out for the same reason, and though hesitant to impose upon their prior arrangement, I was cordially invited to tag along. After what must have been a good hour of nachos, soup, salad, cider, and ice wine (another first for me!), it was mutually agreed that an illustration of the event would be a fun idea, and I'm looking forward immensely to the idea coming to fruition. Though I won't be drawing it, because I'm awful. :P
As soon as the weekend had started, the closing ceremony was upon us, where it was announced that
would be stepping down as con chair; as I haven't known any other con chair, since 2015 was my first year of attendance, I thank him for his awesome work in making these past four years of FE very memorable for me, and look forward to seeing what the new management has to offer. We also learnt that Shiro and Nyomi would be the guests of honour for next year, and that the theme would be 'Graduation'. Naturally, this means that I am compelled to return next year, come what may, and I look forward immensely to doing so!
With the end of the closing ceremony came the annual concluding dinner at the Mandarin restaurant, and while my flight home meant that I was unable to go with them, I felt obliged to walk to Union Station with the group, to give a proper farewell. On arrival, there were plenty of hugs and well wishes all round, and after watching the group proceed for the metro line, I headed for the UP Express to Pearson, but not before popping outside to take the picture you see here. The train back to the airport was a long one, but not in terms of the journey time, though the service could have been a little more expedient; post-con depression seemed to hit harder and faster this year, as I thought of all the wonderful times I had had over the past weekend, with so many wonderful individuals. I listened to 'Modlitba pro Martu' through my earphones, and held back a few tears as we pulled into the airport. The security line was rather long, and with minutes to spare, I made it to the gate before boarding commenced, but not before I had stopped by a Tim Horton's to pick up a doughnut (they haven't opened a restaurant in Canterbury, yet! :P). The flight was half-empty, and so I ended up with a row to myself. I rested my head against the wall, and gazed out of the window, watching as lights along the US side of Lake Ontario drifted by. Another FE had come to an end, but I will hold dear the memories that were created this year, and reserve some of the best wishes for all those who made my weekend a wonderful one.
Warm wishes to you all, and I hope you enjoy!
