What Do Windowless Schools and Bomb Disposal Have in Common?
Welcome to Gauger-Cobbs middle school, a property with a very bizarre history. After world war 2 this was just a small section of a much larger piece of property used for destruction of US munitions. Explosives were shipped here by train to be disassembled, with tall berms built to contain possible explosions. Today these berms still exist in the woods behind and on either side of the school.
The school building itself is also an oddity, built as a learning experiment in the 1960's. The building was modular and built without any windows whatsoever in the classrooms. The idea was that without being distracted by whatever was outside kids would have a better learning environment. The modular construction also meant interior walls could be easily moved to combine or enlarge classrooms. It didn't really work, with grades actually dropping slightly. My dad actually went here in the late 1960's, and recalls the place always being gloomy and depressing.
It doesn't stop there though, as it turns out this land may also be haunted. Someone I know sighted a weird creature in the woods behind the school in the middle of the night, a creature of considerable height that stood on two legs and growled at him through the trees.

My high school had modular interior walls and a nearly windowless design. The result is a building that looks and feels not unlike a jail, except I imagine the food is better in jail. The modular walls never move, and only prove to be a safety hazard in tornado country. It's a terrible building that thankfully is going to be replaced and renovated in the coming years.

My old elementary school is like that now. Mostly black. Was about 50/50 when I was little. But once they got rid of bussing and the old principle left us suburbanites jumped ship. Not much point going 30 min into the city when you can just go to the school down your street
