If his ears go back and flatten on his head, he is mad, otherwise, they don't bite, but remember they can't see five feet in front of their face so you hold your hand flat when offering a treat, an apple slice or a carrot, otherwise they will bite your finger off. Don't give horses sugar cubes, it is bad for their digestion, still if you make 'horse cookies' with molasses in replacement of all the sugars, they love those!
