I study taekwondo and gumdo (Korean martial arts) under the one and only Master Hawk! No, seriously, in real life guys. I'll be a Red 1st in TKD after Saturday (August 22, 2009) as long as I don't screw anything up at the testing. :)
Anyway, I wanted to draw a feline samurai and the project eventually morphed into me drawing my master as a tiger since the tiger is all uber in Korea. And since he goes by the nickname Hawk, I drew a really crappy hawk perched on his powerful fist of death. *Shrug* I categorize it as muscle mostly because Master Hawk is beefy IRL. Can't so much see it here, but I thought that was reasonable. The uniforms hide a lot of musculature.
For no apparent reason, drawing a tiger's face was an absolute bitch. I tried at least four different styles before settling on this one. In the end, it's about the only thing I really like about this drawing. I cheaped out on the bird so it looks crummy, the way his hand holds the katana looks icky, and that leg on the right. ... Not even going there.
There's so much I forgot to put in! Sandals, a sheath in the belt... I almost forgot the tail too! But it's too late to go back in. Oh well. At least I managed to finish it! Was beginning to wonder...
I'm thinking of coloring this. I've only got colored pencils, but we'll see what happens. Might send it to my master just to see if he gets a kick out of it.

Thanks! I finally got the curve of the blade right for a change. And I thought the solid handle instead of a wrapped one would look better. Easier to draw too.
Eh, technically I guess it's not a katana. It's whatever the Korean equivalent is called. Jingum? Either way, still a rockin' sword.
