This is the red tailed boa male I've been anticipating for the past few months now from the awesome
- his name was Buster, and I always feel guilty changing names of animals that I'm getting, so I decided to keep that as his "middle name" ;P Since I've been a fan of the Ghostbusters since childhood, it seemed like the perfect name. I'll call him Ghostie for short. Or Ghostface Killah. (I kid.)
Anyways... this snake is so freaking amazing. I am in love with him. He's about 20" so far, but will grow to several more feet. I am well-prepared for it, as his tank is freaking enormous. I'll be sure to add lots of hiding spots for him so he doesn't get too stressed from the magnitude of the tank XD
He's stretched out along the crease between my back and my chair right now, before that he was "smelling" my chin, neck, lips and nose with his tongue. It tickles SO MUCH but it's so cute ;^; <3

His little FACE! He's so cute, argh I can't stand it! I can't wait to see updated pictures as he grows, I'm really interested to see what those peaches and pinks will do as he ages. The silvers and grays will turn to caramel and cream, but he's going to have pink highlights like you wouldn't even believe!
I saw an adult male red tail in the parking lot of a pet store, some lady was trying to sell him for $350. He was very sweet, but it made me sad to see that a. he was wrapped around the door of her truck and b. his face was scratched to pieces, obviously from being fed live one too many times. :/ He was MASSIVE, though, and it was interesting to see the colors and to know what size that he may actually reach! :o
actually, don't be afraid at all to put such a tiny young snake in a small tank/cage. but some young snakes are nippy, and can get really nervous in a big cage - a small enclosure can help them feel 'safer' and therefore calmer. I wouldn't worry about it though if he seems to be fine where he is.
he's a beaut - I'm always amused by how buggy boa's eyes X]

ah there it is, been waiting to see this guy
arrived just in time for the serpent super bowl this weekend http://www.reptilebreedersexpo.com/
if you know anything about the lineage it might tell you what kind of attitude to expect
the rule with bci seems to be the further south the region where the bloodline was collected, the feistier they tend to be
i know that not alot of breeder's pay much attention to this info unless it's a morph, but occasionally they do
is he feeding on live, f/k or f/t, i think the ease of adapting to changes in diet may be my favorite thing about these guys personally
you probably could still get away with it at this size, but once he starts taking full-size rats,
you'll want to feed him in a container where he won't ingest that reptibark stuff (if you're not already that is)
at least they are much better tangible critters than your OBTs, and once he realizes that when you go to open the tank
you aren't about to crush his head in he'll start to see you as a favored hot spot, wrap around an appendage and just hang out without constantly darting away
i've found that's the way it works with most non-high-strung snakes once you have them out of their little stronghold,
in the beginning you hold them and then in time they start holding you

I haven't fed him yet, but I plan to tomorrow. I have a baby rat waiting for him in the fridge that I got today. The girl who gave him to me (
) said he's well adapted to feeding on frozen. I planned on feeding him outside the tank anyways, just so he knows for sure that when my hand is reaching in his tank, it doesn't mean food ;P
He's already so affectionate, it's killing me <3 He's so cute, twitching his eyes every which-way, wrapping around my neck and back and even in my shirt and just staying in there for a long while. He lets me pet his head and gives me snakey "kisses" on the nose. *swoon*

that's something of note, that such a young snake would allow you to touch their head at all
and i can personally attest to feeding in the cage encourages the strike first mentality but i also started using a trick i brought over from using on my spiders
using a mister when you go to open the cage (nothing like a water jet to the snoot mind you), just a light misting that envelops the head region, it seems to confuse snakes/spiders/frogs whatever almost like they pacified by it
doesn't always work, my B. smithi despises any moisture that's introduced and just kicks hairs, but many times it does, i don't know if it's the sensation of the little droplets collecting on them or the scent of water saturating the air but spiders put their legs back down, my horned toad sets to blinking instead of trying to swallow my fingers, snakes stop staring you down with that menacing s-coil in their neck and begin to wander about flicking their tongue as if you weren't even there anymore, and it's done with just plain ol' water!
if am seeing right that makes 2 snakes for you now, i trust that you'll soon find that's not enough (they are addicting)
next you might consider a rosy boa http://www.stargazing.com/blog/rosy1.jpg cheap, easy, good eaters, slow-moving and small enough to be housed in a 10gal tank
