Vanguard G - Kazuma x Chrono (GT M/M)
Fluff! Glorious Fluff!
There is also a lot of in show referencing, I've tried to make it understandable for those who have and haven't watched it, so hopefully it all makes sense.
“Shindou, will you knock that off, what do you think you are doing?”
“Chrono-san, is everything ok? That’s the fifth time you’ve checked your foot in the last few minutes, did you sprain it?”
“Huh, oh, no, no, no, nothing like that, my sandals just feel uncomfortable as if there’s a stone in there or something but every time I check, it is always clear…”
The red headed teen casually dismissed with a wave of his hands as his team mates just stared at him confused.
“If you say so…you can be so weird Shindou”
The dark blue haired teen casually added on, hands on hips as he stared at the other boy suspiciously, now that he brought it to his attention, his own pumps had been feeling rather snug for a little while now, as if they had became a size too small. Looking down at them, he could see his toes pushing against the edge as the fabric had begun pinching and digging into his skin. Glancing over at Chrono, the dark haired teen noticed something equally strange; it wasn’t a case of something being stuck in there but rather, with some certainty he was sure that Twirly-hairs toes were now poking over the edge. Rubbing his eyes and checking again, his eyes had to be playing tricks with him but nope, it really looked like what he thought he saw…
“hmm, seriously what has gotten into everything all of a sudden…”
“Chrono-san! Kazuma-san! Over here, check it! Doesn’t this look familiar!?”
Called out Taiyou, snapping Kazuma out of his thoughts entirely as he simply tried to shrug the whole line of thought away, it was a stupid one anyway. As the two older teens approached, they both smiled, they definitely recognised this spot for once. The massive irregular rock formation, decorated by a lone standing palm tree to the side and more bushes than you could shake a stick at as they stood in front of the pitch black entrance that looked like it had no end.
“I’m positive this is the cave from when we went food hunting before! Remember during the break of the last Under Twenty!”
“Heh, that’s right, isn’t this that infamous bat cave where you thought there would actually be food inside…”
“Oh…that’s right but instead there were just hundreds of bats?”
Taiyou and Kazuma continued to joke as the pair begun laughing at the silliness of the idea now, as Chrono tried to think of something to say back but could feel his face heating up from the embarrassment and humiliation. In retrospect, it really wasn’t one of his brightest moments, he’s not even sure anymore why he was so certain there’d be anything in there to begin with…the result of innocence or obliviousness of his younger self simply not knowing any better perhaps?
“Don’t feel bad Chrono-san at least it gave us a fun memory to look back on.”
“Besides, we’ve got use to your odd ball behaviour by now”
“Gah.. Hey! Alright, I get it…not one of my brightest moments…”
The red head sighed in defeat as the other two continued to chuckle at the situation with his understatement and half, at least they were able to see the funny side to it, so that was something…
The trio remained there reminiscing for a while more, as the tables turned to poking fun at Chrono, to the embarrassed Kazuma and how that incident lead to one of the first moments he properly opened up to them and Team Striders on the whole really started bonding as a unit.
“Umm..”
“Something to add Taiyou?” Chrono questioned at the younger boys sudden hesitancy,
“Umm…well no but I didn’t want to ruin the moment but I really need the bathroom…”
Taiyou blushed, closing his eyes from the awkwardly timed question as the two older boys looked at him in surprise.
“Then just go use the bushes, it isn’t like anyone would see”
“But… it just doesn’t feel right…” as the Gold Paladin user continued to squirm
“It is a secluded island, in the middle of nowhere in an out of the way part of the forest… what are you afraid someone might catch you?”
The dark haired teen sighed as he watched the younger boy nod, had this kid never gone camping before?
“Everyone else is going to be at the main site, just think of it like camping if it helps…”
Chrono added pondering on ideas as Taiyou looked at him uneasily; he still didn’t like the idea.
“Besides it could be another hour or more before we get back… oh…” as Chrono snapped his fingers, finally clicking on to the potential problem, “Just go Taiyou, we won’t say a word about it after…”
Looking at Chrono, Taiyou smiled in relief, even if they possibly thought he was making a big deal out of nothing. Nodding, the younger boy simply ran off into the bushes and within seconds was completely out of sight.
“Watch him get lost on top of everything else…”
“Kazuma!”
“What? It really was a big fuss over nothing…”
Ignoring the red heads unimpressed stare, Kazuma casually walked over to the cave entrance and begun leaning against the wall, with Chrono joining him moments later as an awkward silence fell over the pair. In one hand, Kazuma appreciated the solo time with Chrono, it was rare to get hold of with everything going on but on the other, this just left him to his own thoughts and that was rarely a good thing. Should he say something? What does one say in these situations? It was just the two of them now, maybe he should confess before they part ways now High School was done…no that would be stupid, what if he didn’t feel the same way or found it weird? The last thing he wanted was to lose Shindou’s friendship…
“Hey Kazuma…I was wondering, why didn’t you go to the finals dance?”
“You bring that up now? What does it matter anyway?”
“Curious I guess…admittedly you didn’t miss much…”
“Bored were we?”
“Well yeah, I would have liked to spend it with you, it was the last major school event after all…”
Kazuma bit his lip to prevent the gasp in his throat escaping as he quickly turned away, looking into the cave entrance, damnit, he needed to keep calm, despite how he wished he meant it, Shindou more than likely just meant as a close friend. Taking a couple of deep breaths to regain his composure, the dark haired teen glanced over his shoulder, the red head wasn’t even looking at him, rather it looked like he was just staring at the clouds, typical.
“But didn’t you go with that girl from class C, what was her name…Miyuki or something?”
“Only because you said you weren’t going and she had been asking me for weeks leading up to it…I eventually caved and said yes, someone was better than no one…”
“And they say I’m cold, so you didn’t have fun, and then there’s nothing between you two?”
“What!? No! No way! Geez, what is it with High School, that you can’t speak to some one of the opposite gender without everyone thinking you’re a thing? Besides the whole night was awkward, I even left early; I didn’t know what to talk about with her…contrary to surface appearances… unless it’s something to do with Cardfighting... I dunno… how to people…”
“How… to… people…? What even is that?”
As the dark haired teen stifled a laugh, coughing into his fist before breaking out into a fit of laughter, Shindou really was a one track minded individual. As a dusting of red began to form, the flustered Chrono was about to retort back before pausing, contently staring at the other teen with a genuine smile as he listened to the boy laugh, a genuine, honest laugh was so rare from Kazuma, being more use to the others scoffs and snarky laughs instead.
“What? What is it?” Kazuma quizzed as he finally stopped laughing, dropping into a snicker,
“Just taking in the moment”
“Meaning?”
“Your genuine laughs are nice, you should try it more often Kazuma…”
“Shindou…” as the wide eyed dark haired teen was caught off guard by the comment, gently punching the others shoulder as he looked feet “don’t say such lame things…”
“I would have gone with you, you know, all you had to do was ask…”
“Two guys going together, you wouldn’t have found that weird?”
“Why would it be weird? As long as we had fun, what does it matter?”
“Shindou…I”
Kazuma started, catching himself before he could really begin, a small sense of relief over coming him as he clenched his fists tightly, he said it he wouldn’t find it weird… then maybe it would be ok? Either way, Kazuma had reached a point where he needed to know for sure!
Spinning on heel, the dark haired teen boxed in the red head, placing an arm either side of the other boys head who was now looking at him in confusion,
“Kazuma…what are you doing?”
“Enough games Shindou, I need to know!”
Know what?“
Chrono obliviously questioned, this behaviour was weird, especially for Kazuma, what had gotten into him all of a sudden? Was this a side effect of those berries from before or something? Lightly flinching as Kazuma placed a hand on his cheek, confused greens stared at the tenderness in those steel greys that Chrono could feel his face warming up to full on burning as Kazuma leaned down and kissed him. Chrono froze, his whole body tense from the shock as his arms just sat there in mid-air not doing anything as his brain seemed to be playing catch up on what was going on. Pulling a part, Chrono gasped for air as he looked at a curiously hopeful Kazuma…
“Well..”
“You just kissed me…” Chrono stuttered bringing a hand to his mouth
“Uhh yeah…?”
“That was my first…”
Kazuma was taken aback by that remark, he had passed eighteen now after all; while surprising he couldn’t help but smile at the news and despite how childish it may have sounded he claimed Twirly-heads first kiss… as silence followed, neither sure what to do next
“Can I have another!?”
“Wait! What!?”
“I…I liked it”
Now both teens were as red as Chrono’s hair as they stared at each other tenderly, this wasn’t the direction Kazuma was expecting this to go in but even without an answer, he’d be crazy to turn down another chance as the dark haired teen stroked the side of Chrono’s cheek, leaning in once more, only to be met half way by an impatient Chrono.
It was only brief but it seemed the Singularity learns fast, with this kiss being far less awkward, almost demanding as Chrono’s floating arms from before now rested one on Kazuma’s shoulder the other on his chest as Chrono could feel the others heart racing, was he the reason for that?
For Kazuma though it wasn’t enough, he needed, no wanted more as he pushed the red head back against the wall of the cave, submitting to bottled up feelings of the past year and half. While awkward and fidgety, the dark haired teen had to appreciate Chrono’s efforts in attempting to keep up. Perhaps this was something Chrono was secretly after as much as he was too? As Chrono’s arms slid up and around Kazuma’s neck, pulling him closer, matching his team mates actions as he tangled his fingers into the others hair, not wanting to let go, neither wanting this moment to end as Kazuma lead the red head through the kiss.
With the two teens distracted to the on goings of the outside world, lost to their bubble of the moment, a different sensation overcame the duo, subtle but tingling almost static like as it passed through the body. As limbs stretched and muscles widened as the two teens slowly started to become taller, inching closer and closer to the top of the cave entrance with every passing second.
Before long, fabric began to indent skin as toes pushed against the constrained space until they could take no more and Kazuma’s toes pierced through the end of his shoes with a loud rip and a snap as Chrono’s sandals could no longer hold his swelling feet causing both boys to stumble and the dark haired teens shoes to split apart entirely from the sudden jagged force of the movement. With enough self-awareness, Kazuma put his arm out, grabbing on to the cave wall, supporting both boys from falling over but not missing a beat for anything else as the pair finally surpassed the cave entrance in height and were still growing taller by the second as bare feet started to press into the soft ground below until Chrono pushed away gasping for air.
“geez Kazuma…that was getting intense. Some of us need to breathe you know…”
Teased Chrono, noticing the worried expression on the other boys face before placing his head in the crook of Kazuma’s neck.
“I’m sorry…I”
“Ah don’t fret, it’s fine really, it’s my inexperience”
“You learn fast Gear Chronicle Singularity” joked Kazuma as he rested his head on top of Chrono’s, enough was enough, and he had to know
“Heh, been a while since any one has called me that…”
“Chrono-san!? Kazuma-san!?”
If the duo weren’t beet red before, they certainly were now as they heard the inquisitive tone of their third member, just when did he get back, had he been there long? As the pair separated, the two teens turned away from each other, the air between the three of them now feeling heavy with awkwardness. This just had to be the worst timing ever…
“Ah…Taiyou! It…it isn’t what it looks like…It’s nothing…”
“Is that so?”
Kazuma physically recoiled at the remark as Chrono turned to look at him being caught off guard by the ice cold tone of his words.
“No, wait Kazuma, I didn’t mean…”
“So what, you were just humouring me? Stringing me a long, did you mean anything you said before?”
“I don’t know and of course I did Kazuma, let’s just t …”
“Save it Shindou! I don’t want to hear it… just another screw up hmm!”
“Kazuma! Come back!”
The red head shouted with more desperation in his voice than he would have liked as he watched the Shadow Paladin user storm away, not taking long to disappear behind the trees from the thicket of the forest. Flinching as he replayed the last few seconds in his head, Chrono couldn’t remember when he last saw Kazuma so mad…no, there was another time, back during the second stage of the first Under Twenty. It wasn’t like he hadn’t seen Kazuma mad before but on this level… was back when he lost to Shiranui when he was still posing as Kazumi…an on par realisation that made him feel rather unsettled.
“I’m sorry Chrono-san, did I interrupt something?”
“Yes… No…Maybe…I dunno! What even was that!?”
Chrono screamed out in frustration, punching the wall behind him multiple times, before eventually resting his forehead on the colder, rougher surface as all these emotions rushed to the surface that the red head simply didn’t know what to do with.
“I don’t even get what just happened… why it bothers me so much…”
“Chrono-san…Chrono-san! CHRONO-SAN!”
Shouted Taiyou as loud as he could to try and get the others attention, snapping the red head from his thoughts entirely as he glanced over at a worried looking Taiyou before turning away again, back against the wall, he couldn’t even face him anymore; just another fine mess this red head had gotten himself into…
“Chrono-san…are you just going to let him go? The Chrono-san I know isn’t afraid of a challenge; he wouldn’t let a small obstacle like a misunderstanding get in his way…”
“Darnit…” Chrono mumbled under his breath, tightening his fist as he slammed it against the wall once more.
“Chrono-san…do you still want to fight Kazuma-san, never stopping?”
“Eh?”
“Not only fight but do dumb and trivial stuff to, laugh till it hurts and have a blast just fooling around?”
Taiyou calmly continued as Chrono gasped recognising where and when those words were from as he stared at his own clenched fist in wide eyed realisation.
“Taiyou…I..”
“You missed him back then and did everything you could to get him back, you went to such great lengths and when we did finally get him back…?”
“Huh…when we got Kazuma back… I never wanted to lose him again, lose that cheek or smug smile of his; it felt like something was missing when he wasn’t here…”
“Do you still feel like that? If Kazuma-san disappeared tomor…”
“No! Never again! I wouldn’t let it!” Chrono cried out “I can’t, I don’t…I…”
“Then isn’t that your answer?”
“Answer?”
“Chrono-san, I think Kazuma-san is your most important person and has been for a while now…”
“My most important…person…? as in, you think that I … I love… Kazuma…?
The red head slowly tried to piece it altogether as the gears in his head were suddenly working overtime as he gave the idea some serious thought, perhaps Taiyou was on to something here, and the more he thought about it the more it made sense, just what was his relationship with Kazuma? It wasn’t friendship or comradeship from being team mates, it wasn’t really the same as his bond with Shion and Tokoha or even Taiyou who was like a little brother to him. It was similar to the way he thought of Mikuru-san but at the same time not, almost like it was something else, something more…
“You’re right! I’ve been in love with him this whole time and have just been dismissing it” Chrono gasped, bring his hands to his head as he brushed them back into his hair, “Gaaahhh! I’ve been such an idiot! What have I done…?”
Shouted the red head in frustration as he turned and looked in the direction that Kazuma ran off in minutes before, maybe there was a chance he could catch up to him still before they reached the others, he needed to clear up this misunderstanding, a misunderstanding that he caused.
“Damnit! Kazuma!!!”
Yelled Chrono in desperation, perhaps he was still close enough to be heard but also not a matter he was willing to take a chance on, automatically sprinting off in the very same direction, leaving Taiyou standing there by himself to just let the moment sink in as he finally looked up to the top of the cave entrance; his fleeting moment of potential success replaced by worry as he just stared at the cracks that appeared from Chrono repeatedly punching it in his frustration and anguish of the moment. It was just unbelievably high up.
“Hmm… with how heated the situation got and how emotionally riled up they were, I wonder if they’ve even noticed…still, I probably should go let Ibuki-san know about this… ”
Collecting the remnants of what were the older boys shoes for evidence, Taiyou made his own dash back, to try and find Ibuki or Mamorou and fill them in, after all, the biggest challenge had been overcome, what was the worst Chrono and Kazuma could do now?
“Kazuma! Wait up, Kazuma!”
“Get lost Shindou!”
“No, please hear me out…”
“Forget it, I don’t want to talk to you, just go away!”
“I won’t! You need to hear this!”
Chrono shouted back, his earlier desperation replaced with annoyance at just how stubborn Kazuma was actually being, he’d admit, due to his earlier response, Kazuma had all right to be mad at him, after all, he toyed with his emotions and set his hopes up for a situation which must have took a lot of guts. It must do, after all Kazuma made the first move while he was still being an idiot too afraid to face these new feelings of his.
“Kazuma, we both know how stubborn I can be, we could do this all day! Just stop already!”
An annoyed Chrono called out once more, only to receive the cold shoulder treatment in return as Kazuma picked up the pace a bit.
“Oh no you don’t!”
Mumbled Chrono in frustration as he dug deep to find the energy to sprint in front of Kazuma, grabbing his arm as he ran pass, skidding to a halt, only to be greeted by cold steel eyes, a look he felt he very much deserved.
“Ha…Finally! …We’re tackling this matter now!? You hear me!”
“I told you to back off Shindou!”
Snapped the darker haired counterpart as he snatched his arm free of his grasp, shoving Chrono away with all the strength he could muster, watching as the Twirly-haired idiot went crashing through the trees.
“And I said n…huh it’s the beach, we found the coast line again!”
As Chrono came stumbling through, just about keeping his balance slipping on the sand from the unexpected change of surface while his frustration subsided partially for relief, now they’d be able to find the others easily. So distracted with the moment with Kazuma, that the red headed boy didn’t even noticed the trio he had just scarcely missed. The same trio that were on the ground, having to jump back just to avoid being accidently stepped on. While seeing and trying to comprehend one of them, Team Jaime Flowers were left dumbfounded and speechless at the sight of two as Kazuma came onto the scene, appearing from the newly formed archway Chrono created when he crashed through minutes before.
What they were seeing couldn’t be real could it? This had to be a trick of some sort; as steel grey and vivid green traded the look of confusion back at the trio that made up Jaime Flowers, with neither side quite able register the sight in front of them.
Exchanging quick glances between themselves, even the usually stoic, Dark Zone branch manager Enishi was now staring back, wide eyed in disbelief, almost as if they had seen a ghost or were recovering from a fright and half, but it was Tokoha who was first to find her words, just about registering the sight that had come crashing down before them all; responding in the only way she knew how to at this stage...
“Chrono Shindou!!! What in the world have you gotten yourself into this time!?”
Fluff! Glorious Fluff!
There is also a lot of in show referencing, I've tried to make it understandable for those who have and haven't watched it, so hopefully it all makes sense.
