It would definitely make things a lot more interesting. But at the same time a lot more complicated on there side since you can't just easily apply the one typing to a single/duel typed pokemon. Damage would get wonky and I guess too much work for them to try and worry about. Especially since the current system works so well.
The other thing I could see the move doing is tweaking it so the move's typing reflects which status effect is applied.
