Meet Norlat, a 'Guardian' which resembles a cross between a roach and a preying mantis. From what I can tell so far she is a character from Jelethorim's stories which, by the way, are nice to read.
Despite the very nice description I was given, I decided to stick to my grey color scheme. I realize it's a bit selfish, but I have my reasons to do so.
Again, the anatomy is lacking; especially the legs and upper/lower body proportions.
Still... I had a great time drawing this.
My favorite part happens to be the antennae. :3

More information about the species:
Graceful. Quick. Believes in the concept of 'Hit Fast and Accurate', over 'Brute Force'. Much like a preying mantis, two arms up, four legs to the ground, long feathery antennae that curls and is incredibly expressive. Females have long oviposotors in the back that can be decorated, or even (with training) be used to pierce someones abdomen. The colors vary, Norlat is an aquamarine color. The chitin is much like articulated plate mail, without the extra bulk to it.
The face is triangular, wedge like - long mandibles in the front and expressive mouth parts hidden when not in use. They can create a wide variety of voices and languages. The carapace is very strong, with a weak spot right between the antennae (as demonstrated) that can be struck to render them unconscious if a lucky hit/careful strike hits it just right. The eyes are large, smooth orb - with a single 'pupil' that they can hyperfocus or expand as needed.. The spine is slender, but incredibly strong, with small ridges that deflect focused attacks from bladed weapons.
The body is given to a long torso - she has proper 'shoulders' with overhanging 'pauldron' style they cannot reach that high above their heads, but have more range of movement than a human could. Their hands are given to a four-finger grip, or three fingers and a 'thumb' like stronger digit. Their grip is very firm when they chose it to be. Their movements are delicate here. The forearms are long as well - with small 'blades' along it which can be used for rip and slash in close combat.
Their lower half is long, with legs drawing along it, almost like a quadrupedal animal would. They are a little more focused here, with the digestion and most of the bodily stuff occurring at this part of their body. Their back holds a long wing-case, which is an old evolutionary draw back (but is rather sensitive for intimate touches between partners). On males, their lower end draws to a point where their internal workings can 'come out'. On a female, it holds the long ovipositors that often curl up, but can straighten out in a flash and be used to impale someone. On both, the entry leads to the inner workings of the body, as well as being erogenous zones as needed. The legs are strong - they can leap quite a bit if they need to or grip for high terrain climbing.
Clothing for them tends to be light, often a wrap about the neck, decoration for the ovispostors (female) and antennae (both). Something to wrap the forelimbs to avoid showing blade until necessary.

I suggest you go check out Jelethorim's page and read the 'Soldier' stories. They're very nicely written and worth the time.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to draw such a unique creature.
From a personal point of view she's lacking in so many aspects and hardly does credit to her description.
Maybe one day, when I've become a better artist, I'll retry this challenge and see if I can do better.
For now, this is my limit... ^___^

You, sir, share the same view which I do... I think...
In fact... there's a reply I made to one of
albina's comments on my journal here... http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/875643/
Scroll down until you see it... I think you might like it... ;o)

Hey, if it helps, I could always use more pictures of the Dra'Nar, or the Alechar (new species in my stories). If it helps. I'm an art-whore and always look around for good artists who don't seem like they'd be offended if I asked.
Plus, you are the best damn bug-artist on FA. I love the picture of Norlat quite a bit. :)
