An oil painting commission, of a London pub called Sun in Splendour, after closing time, with a young couple lingering outside, not ready for the night to end.
Done with oils on 30"x40" canvas. Approximately 140 hours of work.
This is a photograph of the painting that I took outside on a sunny day - it had brighter colors than when I took the photo inside, but it also bleached out the upper story a tad - there is actually more contrast there. I think I may post the 'indoors' photo in scraps. Its very difficult to get an accurate photo, but much too big to scan.

I wonder.. .
How well are the art exhibits at EF, and at other cons?
Well in comparison over a real gallery, which have more of natural light sources and all that.
But I guess it might depend a little bit on how it is exactly at the place where the paintings are being made. A kind of silly question perhaps.. :p

The first thing to consider regarding convention art shows is that I have to transport the art a long distance - and in most cases, I cant just put the canvases in my car because I'm not driving there... Also, furry conventions generally have a rule against content thats not related to anthro or wildlife - and I think that in general, the panels arent built for pieces of this size, and the lighting varies, but its not meant to be professional gallery-style lighting, its just meant to do the job, I think...
So showing my large oil paintings at conventions is probably not going to happen... I think what might happen, once I build a portfolio, is that I might show at a local gallery in or around Portland, or I might show at a gallery in Los Angeles, (my hometown, so I have contacts there) And I'd pretty much have to just pop the paintings into the car and drive on down... (I can ship one painting at a time, probably, through UPS or FedEx - but the artwork shipping crates are expensive, as well as shipping, so it would be cheaper to just pack them up in the car, as I've got a roomy trunk and back seat)

NON ANTHROMORPHS! Anyhow, really really bloody good, thought it was a picture when I first glanced at it, before I actually took the time to look at it. Good to hear there is more contrast on the second floor in reality, I was thrown off from just looking at it till I read your comment. I really love how so much of it looks nearly if not photo realistic, and the detail is brilliant.
This is a remarkable piece! I looked at your other submission and I'm only sorry I can't see it in person. I get the impression it's a lot more atmospheric up close and this photo doesn't really do justice to your amazing painting skills.
The lighting is incredible and you captured the mood excellently. This must have been a ton of work for you, considering the size! I certainly wouldn't mind having this one hanging on my own wall.
To say it's nice work would be an understatement!

The couple is supposed to be non-specific ... Although I did get some help from good friends TaniDaReal and Nightfox for the poses/expressions - they were kind enough to take some pictures for me of themselves in the poses that I had sketched - since I needed models. As it turned out though they don't look anything like them ^.^, But I wasn't really trying to match the features, as I didn't want them to look like "specific" people - they are meant to be a kind of "imagine yourself here" couple.
I asked $3,000 for this painting. That has become my standard price for 24"x36" and up sized acrylic or oil paintings - since I regularly put in over 100 hours on them.
Thank you very much =D Its very nice to hear that my work is appreciated. And this piece was a particularly challenging one for me.

... Two words: Simply Amazing!
The colours, amount of detail and the light from the lamps are just so much well-done.. :)
But for me, it first looks like it's a 'day' setting on the painting, until I see that the building is being heavily up lit by other lights, as well as the road being dark otherwise.
I like the gold colour, and the blues.
It's quite impressive how much you can do on a piece if you (just) take the enough time for it. :>

The building itself is actually curved =) : http://www.suninsplendourpub.co.uk/.....rHistoric1.jpg
Thank you =D The upper floor looks much too bright in this photo - Its lit by the upward facing grey lights, but the lighting is actually more subtle - I took the painting outside on today's sunny day for this photo, so it was probably just hit more by the sunlight. I took an inside photo as well, which shows the colors under a more yellow interior light. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2682612/ It would be interesting to set up the painting under a light with a dimmer switch and see how the colors change.
