Inspired by Turtledove's Great War trilogy, which depicts the US invading Canada during an alternate WW1 and establishing a Quebecois puppet state, as well as by the Polish and Czechoslovak Legions established by the Entente powers, I concocted this with the general basis for the pose being a piece of German propaganda art depicting an Askari waving the Imperial banner. The basic premise behind this is that, after the US and Denmark occupy much of Quebec by 1916, a puppet government is established in Quebec, with its headquarters in Sherbrooke (as Quebec City had just been taken and was too heavily-damaged to be used as the capital).
A Quebec Legion was thusly founded, comprised of patriotic young Quebecois who sought to fight against the Anglo-Canadians and ensure Quebec's independence. However, the US occupation became a divisive issue among Quebecois, particularly since the US were allies of Germany, historical enemies of their French fatherland. Though the Legionnaires fought with distinction in the push on Montreal and Lake Ontario, they returned home after hostilities ended to find themselves shunned by their countrysaurs and the government refusing to aid them whatsoever; as a result, many immigrated, either south to the US or eastward to Danish Markland, where they hoped they might make a better name for themselves, away from their homes where they clearly were not welcome.
For the most part, I am happy with how this turned out (the stegosaur's uniform is little darker than I intended, as I wanted something more akin to a cross between French horizon blue and Finnish grey), with the exception of the sky. I honestly kind of half-assed it with the overcast clouds, which I mostly based on the sky looking outside my window on the day I colored this in.
