Crown Crab symbiotes are all young Hive Queens. If raised and cared for they would grow up to be one. Partnering with a host stops that development though. Crown Crab pairings will not grow to become Hive Queens

Well, Ficus said that host is still the same person as before, just urging to serve hive.
A new host will be there, the same person as always <…>source
Ultimately, Succubats still care about the people they used to care about, the things they used to care about. They don't want to leave them, they just, don't always have the choice to keep their friends.source

The only real downsides I can see to the Succubat/Crown Crab process are the underserved social stigma, any issues that come from being part of a hive, the physical changes, and the potential clothing damage.
Honestly, I don't know if I'd want to join a hive. The extra support and camaraderie would be deeply appreciated, but I'd be afraid that I couldn't live up to the responsibilities of a hive member. Coupled with the social stigma, it makes it a scary prospect. I'm also averse to change in general, physical or otherwise.
However, I can see the draw of becoming a hive member. Personally, I wouldn't mind socializing with a hive, so long as they're willing to respect my limits.
