Slowly, Aldin stirred towards consciousness. His body quivered on the bed cushion. Something didn’t feel right. Why was he on his stomach? He always slept on his side, curled-up with his tail wrapped around him like a blanket. As he started to awaken, he flicked his tail and nothing happened. Snapping wide awake, he sat-up quickly and nearly flopped over on his back. A wave of nausea and dizziness ran through him a moment as he sat there. He tried to twitch his tail again, but only got a tiny wiggle.
*What in Frith’s name?* ran through his head as he glanced down and realized his body shape was wrong. *And why did I evoke that name?* That’s when he realized his nose was constantly twitching and his muzzle didn’t look right either. He swiveled his ears toward the louder than usual sound of his hosts sleeping in the next room. *Wait? I just swiveled my ears?!?*
He fearfully reached up and felt long ears protruding from the top of his head. His eyes shot wide as he (panicfluffed). He glanced down his back at the small cottontail that had replaced his bushy tail. There was a tiny notch in the cottontail just like he had been missing the tip of his bushy tail before.
*No, no, no! This can’t be happening! It’s got to be a dream!* He closed his eyes and tried willing himself awake. Usually, he could do that if he encountered a dream he felt was obviously a dream he wanted nothing to do with. He opened his eyes again. To his frustration, his body was still wrong. Somehow, he was now a bunny.
SNICK!
He leapt back in confusion tumbling over himself as he fell off his sleeping cushion as his forepaw claws extended. He stared at them, extending and retracting them a few times. SNICK! SNICK! SNICK! He closed his eyes again in disbelief. *Impossible. I’ve become a devilbunny.* He shook his head trying to clear it. He pulled out his flatpanel, and being careful to not drag his new, very sharp claws across its surface, tapped the icon to turn on the camera. Using it, he looked at himself. He still had his pepper gray and brown fur, but he was definitely a devilbunny now instead of a squirrel. He didn’t look all that bad for a bunny.
“Frith on a stick!” he cussed under his breath.
Fearing he’d awaken his hosts and not wanting them to see him like this, he quietly slipped out of the house, though he tripped over his feet a few times and one time, took a rolling tumble, not being used to not having a tail to balance himself anymore as he scampered, well hopped now. As quickly as he could, getting better at hopping with this new body, he made his way to a nearby park. He took refuge under a bush where he felt safe.
There he crouched, unconsciously nibbling on leaves off the bush while trying to figure out how he could have possibly been transformed into, of all things, a devilbunny. After a while he worked out in his head that this was pretty close to April First back on Terra. And if he recalled correctly, that date this year corresponded with the human religious holiday of Easter.
His eyes narrowed as he started to see red as anger quickly flared in his mind. He stomped a hind paw as he cried out, “Damn you! Author! You think this is funny, don’t you?! This had best be temporary! Otherwise, I’m going to find some way to pull you into my world. I’ll then rip off every one of your firetrucking toes with these claws! And as you stare in horror, slowly bleeding out in front of me, I’ll eat the damn things dipping them in Thai peanut sauce!” He stomped again, panting in anger as his heart rate quickened.
The thought of fresh toes with spicy Thai peanut sauce for dipping them in actually sounded appealing to him at that moment and he (shudderfluffed) in horror at the thought. There was no way he could face anyone in his current form. All he could do is find somewhere to hide until he, hopefully, changed back.
My thanks to
chasereynard for this image of Aldin as a bunny. However, Aldin is not very happy about it. Chase assured me it is temporary. At least I hope it is for my own safety seeing how mad Aldin is.
