It's a very powerful piece. Reading through had me thinking of my mate, until the last stanza. That one caused a bit of conflict for me. The end is trying to avoid what is made apparent through the rest of it.

Great writing, but it took me away from my happy place.

Sorry for the unhappy. The last line does fit, because it is a case of feelings not returned, and they won't be ever. X3

He (the speaker) knows that the feelings won't even be requited, even before he loved he knew. How could he be so stupid and fall in love with her?

I got a different interpretation from the poem when I read through it, which is why I have such a distaste for poetry sometimes. It's hard to know what is actually being portrayed without the author explaining it.

I'm making a trip in a couple of weeks to go see my mate for her birthday, so she's on my mind a lot right now. That's why the last line caught me off-guard. I can't wait to see her, and I know that she's going a bit crazy knowing I'm making the trip.

He's thinking about her, trying to figure out why he likes her so much.. oh no, it can't be that, he can't love her. She won't return it, he knows that, he's not unintelligent, so why would he put himself through this?
